Gotcha. Guess it is what it is. Thanks....

OK, I ended up buying one of these, and it works OK: https://www.ebay.com/itm/355009768127
Only thing is it has a slight flicker to it. It's not obvious - only out of the corner of my eye vs if I look directly at it, and I think it's simply the 60Hz of it all, but it didn't have this flicker with the original power supply being on "solid on" mode. What did they do differently in there to make it not flicker? Is it because it's only 24V instead of the 29V the original one was?https://OK, I ended up buying one of...09768127

That link to the YouTube video was broken, should have been this one it seems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajnw_b8FBRU
Anyway, I did watch it and determined that I'm still lost and confused haha.
Are you saying I should find a 30V AC power adapter instead of a 30V DC power supply and it will do what I want with the solid on? Then again searching for 30V AC power supply on Amazon or eBay seems like a lost cause because they are all 30V DC output.
Thank you!https://That link to the YouTube vid...w_b8FBRU...Last edited by shovenose; 12-12-2023, 09:26 AM.

Christmas Light Power Supply Question
Hi all,
I have a cheap rainbow christmas light set off Amazon which has this little power supply that has a button to change modes. I had a white set with the same power supply that I returned but I can't find any other rainbow themed ones that don't use this setup.
Anyway, the problem is every time you unplug them and then plug them in it reverts back to "Combination" mode which cycles through all these annoying tacky effects instead of going back to what you had selected or at least defaulting to "Steady on" which is what I want. So I'm thinking I can just...1 PhotoLast edited by shovenose; 12-08-2023, 10:20 AM.

Re: Diablotek PSDA600 PSU
I don't think it was a waste of time! For a basic PC where power is cheap it's a fine unit after a recap....

Re: Diablotek PSDA600 PSU
Surprised you've never heard of it, encountered a fair number of them over the years. It seems they are (thankfully) defunct now. Haven't seen any for years and looking it up online their website is a goner and except for some sketchy looking random websites you can't buy them anywhere.
I will say it's amazing how bad out of spec it was but visually fine. Scary stuff!

Bad battery or bad motherboard? HP 14-dq1043cl
Trying to determine if the motherboard is at fault or we can just replace the battery.
Issue is it works fine when plugged in but as soon as it's unplugged it goes dead and will not power on unless plugged in. In Windows it says 0% not charging.
Ran HP diagnostics and the result is in the attached picture but also here, perhaps so others with this error can find this thread.

NVIDIA GPU Memory Chip ID and Replacement
I'm trying to repair a GTX Titan X, seems to have a bad memory chip. I have this random graphic I found online but my card is double sided, does that matter? And based on the test result, which one do I need to swap?
I am using a Tesla M40 12GB as a donor board, model number of memory chips on that one is really hard to read but I think they are the same.
As for actually swapping a memory chip from the donor board, I have never done any BGA work before. I watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goViV2IYogk and it seems he is using a new memory...Last edited by shovenose; 01-21-2023, 12:53 AM.

Re: Best tools question
Various flavors of JB-Weld, such as MinuteWeld, HighHeat, etc. I've used it everything from laptop hinges to reinstalled a spark plug in a cylinder head with ruined threads.

Re: Benchtop Power Supply Question
Yes, Dell still does this, and it detects the wattage of the connected supply. Aftermarket power supplies can fake it, so they don't need to be genuine.
Thing is, if for any reason it can't detect the wattage, it'll totally nerf your laptop. Either it won't charge the battery, or your CPU will be stuck at some stupid low clock speed and the computer will be unusable....

Re: The 2023 Operating System Thread
I'm OK with 11, the only thing that bothers me is it forces you to sign in with a Microsoft account when you install it and automatically enables syncing to OneDrive. So now it's uploaded all my stuff (that I copied into my user folder from my old setup) and I have no idea how to disable it and get the stuff out of OneDrive that I didn't want in there. GRRRRR.

Re: Radeon RX 7900 Series Launched
Yeah, the R9 280 does run HOT, I have reflowed several to repair them. In fact I have a reflowed one floating around right now that nobody even wants for like $25 on eBay. It's funny, during the great GPU shortage, I was selling them like hotcakes for $$$ and now they're basically e-waste....

Re: Radeon RX 7900 Series Launched
Who's spending $2K on a GPU? The Tesla M40 I got used for dirt cheap during the great GPU unavailability and the RX 7900 XT was $900? Where did $2K come from? lol...Last edited by shovenose; 12-19-2022, 12:59 PM.
