This idea just hit me- lockout starting new threads in the FAQ until one has say 10 or 20 posts. that way, we see less n00bs posting random non-frequent questions in the FAQ... if it was a FAQ, you would have to be seasoned to know it gets asked that much.
POSTING would be unlocked- a new person might have a legit question on the same topic or an on topic comment. VIEWING the FAQ would still be unlocked... that needs to to be public.

Mods should just move new questions to the appropriate area/forum. FAQ's should be mods only for editing and revision. Preferably someone who has a grasp of the technology -and- the English language...
An FAQ should be exactly that. The same questions that get asked again and again. There should be NO public intervention in that area. FAQ's should not be able to be responded to except by starting a new thread with new info aimed specifically at updating the present (specific) FAQ, or creating a new one. That part should be public for responses, opinions, general discussion, then the thread should be closed and the FAQ added or updated (or not) depending on the result of the discussion. The FAQ's are rather useless if everyone posts a question there and it's not consolidated somehow. Willa started with some basics. There need to be updates and revisions. That should be expanded upon -gently- to include newer "constant questions". Nothing else. Q Last edited by Quasar; 10-25-2010 at 05:39 PM.. |

well, if you look through the FAQ, you will see that there are a lot of "please help" junk threads in there... mods are nice but a self-solving solution might be a better way. not saying mods would have no job, just that it would take care of the really dumb crap, giving the forum a better image and the mods time to be mods, not noob-nannies..
there should be non-mod threads... every thread seems to have the resident expert who is on a lto, and it is often not a mod. plainbill would be a good example. remember it is a forum, not a blog per se. lock-out would force noobs to post elsewhere... by the time they have x posts, they should have the concept down pat. it would be nice for some input from topcat and a few mods... |

Not disagreeing on the lock-out. Actually that's a good idea.
