Default Required checklist

My suggestion concerns only the Computer Display Forum, but can probably be adopted by the other forums as well. Here goes:

It would seem that the most troublesome displays are very well documented on this site. So what's the problem? Well, for some monitors, the thread runs over 10 pages because there are many new members that just attach their post onto the existing thread. I constantly see members saying they have the same problem as the person on page 1 and that their board is "similar" to the one on page 4. Needless to say, it's very cumbersome to go back and reread all the previous posts to get a jist of what's happening and it's just easier to ignore that person's plea for help. It's very trying to have to keep asking for photos and a more accurate description of the symptoms.

Maybe for every new request for help, it would be required for a member to create a new thread and go through a checklist or fill out a questionaire for their particular monitor. Something like:

Model Number
Brief desciption of problem (power light on/off, no image, ticking sound, screen flickering, etc)
Pictures of top and bottom of power and logic boards
Any repairs that they made have already been done
.
.
.

Starting a new thread for each monitor (even if it's the same model) will hopefully keep the thread down to a reasonable number of pages. Especially now, since I'm starting to see a large number of monitor requests that are beyond the scope of just bad caps. For example, working with people to determine a bad CCFL controller, or even running voltage/resistance tests can take several pages.

i disagree- that leads to a bunch of info scattered around in the forum.

however, the form fill in is not a bad idea... you could use it in the PSU forum and the others of that nature...

I think the check list would be a good Idea .Figure out what key words would be important for a search and include them in the checklist. Even if it was posted in a existing thread of the same monitor at least all the important information would be there.
Print it up and make it voluntary.

I agree. I'd rather read 5 threads on Acer 1916s than try to figure out who's monitor is what in one 10 page thread with 3 1916s and 2 1920As that are "similar to the OPs monitor".

They haven't updated the good/bad caps lists for YEARS.
You really think they are up for that much work?
