Default The AcBel 550W - who is the OEM?

This is strange indeed. Who makes the infamous AcBel 550w? I got mine today, opened it up, and found it a very familiar sight. The UL number leads to AcBel polytech, but this just looks so familiar. Where have I seen this before? Ahh yes, here:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...=Story&reid=26

OCZ Evostream 600W. JG shows that the OEM is 3Y. So...is this AcBel actually made by 3Y?

Heres the maker of the PCB - plotech

Ohh look, plotech.

Interesting tiered design the only other places that I've seen boards stacked like that is on redundant PSUs and Chemicon secondary caps to boot very nice.

I haven't seened too many canned RFI connectors like that in PSUs I guess it's just in the higher end supplies.

Yes, gorgeous isn't it!

Nearly identical to the $20 550w AcBel I picked up a month ago. A 5 pound brick!

mmmm... BEEFY!!

Edit: Of the 3 I originally bought, 2 went into my systems to replace flailing Antec's , and one into a customer's system. All seeming "glitches" have been resolved. I'm now keeping several in stock for replacements.

Well, the AcBel has a forest of OST's on the secondary, and 3 100uf ucc primaries, while the OCZ had UCC on the secondary and Panasonic primaries.

@toasty, yup its that 550W AcBel from hypermicrosystems on ebay.

Bstrd! You posted pics before I did...

To be specific:
Secondary
8 - 3300F @ 10v - 10x25mm - OST: RLS
6 - 2200F @ 16v - 10x25mm - OST: RLS
3 - 1000F @ 16v - 8x20mm - JPce-Tur (aka: JENPO?)

Primary
5 - 120F @ 420v - 18x30mm (UCC-KMG's)

FYI: Buying it direct saves you ~$3.80.

The AcBel runs so cool in a properly ventilated case though, I think the mid-range caps in there (OST) should be just fine.

Have you guys discovered the protection circuit on the fan yet? If the fan can't spin, it won't start, and if you stop down the fan while it's running (I did it with a paintbrush so as to not damage anything) it shuts down on the double.

Their real name is CEC International Holdings. They seem to suppress ripple just fine, enermax has used then for quite a while. As for the longevity, again enermax has used them for a long time...and there is still a lot of old enermax's cranking away out there.

From Capacitor Web:

"Because the conflicting information given by other search sites are summarized below.
・Jan Pan CE-TUx ではない。 Jan Pan CE-TUx is not.
(JP≠ J en P an Electronics Co., Ltd. ←JPCONの社名) (JP ≠ J en P an Electronics Co., Ltd. ← JPCON company name)
・JENPOにCEシリーズがあるがJENPOではない。 There are JENPO the CE is not JENPO series.
(JP≠ J EN P O Electronic Corporation) (JP ≠ J EN P O Electronic Corporation)"

Now if you can understand that, basically it says Jpce-TUR caps (Jan Pan CE-TUx/r/t, those last letters are the series,) are not Jen Pan electronics, those are JPCON, and also is not related to JENPO Electronic Corporation.

Yah but you guys somehow came to the conclusion that they are exactly the same in every way but somehow different....

I believe that this AcBel unit is actually a 3Y.

What if the 3Y is actually an AcBel?

CEC's website is useless but here it is:

I think AcBel OEM's for others. Not the other way around.

I've checked/reworked at least 6 Sparkle FSP460-60PFN now.
They are also a double decker design and look very similar to the others mentioned above.

-
Except for one unit [which was 100% Teapo and didn't need any cap work at all] every one has had a single 4700uF 10v Fuhjyyu 12.5mm in the +5v that was bloated and needed replaced.
One unit had a pair of bloated OST in +12v and two Teapo that were bloated.
[I suspect the bad OST's killed the Teapos.]
Other than those I mentioned all the rest of the caps in all these units were Teapo and were fine.
-
No diameter issues with them because all the originals are 12.5mm caps, but height matters.
I've been using Nichicon PW [UPW0J472MHD6] to replace the Fuhjyyu and I used 10mm Samxon RS 3300uf 16v from BCN to replace the OST's.
-
These are actually a very easy re-cap and it's a decent PSU.
My only gripe is that they aren't 80+ certified.

Curious. Yet the capacitor.web.fc2.com site seems to link JENPO/JPCON/JPCE-TU* all together through CEC...?

I was (7-2007), but no activity until this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if AcBel built this one for 3Y, or somebody copied off someone else's test. That does happen in the industry.

Because they are Infamous here.
