I know that the model motherboard for this is V000148140
However, I found a relatively cheaper version that is V000148170 THEY LOOK ALMOST ALIKE. Could I theoretically use the cheaper replacement here? What exactly changes among models if they are the same series? Tell me if you see any compatability disagreements between both models: ![]() ![]() |

Yeah, looks like it would fit. But I don't think I'd bother. Take a look at the other posts here and on Toshibas forums about these faulty boards. L305, L355, L500, L505, and others...all have similar problems with loss of audio, usb ports, card readers, webcams, etc. All connected to the south bridge.

Yeah, the problem is that the south bridge just needs to be reballed or reflowed.
Heh, not a problem especially if you do it with leaded balls instead of lead-free ones. |

Different revision.
The '140 is a 6050A2175001-MB-A02 Inventec PS10A+ with RS780M and SB700. The '170 is a 6050A2174501-MB-A03 Inventec PS10A (no +) with RS690M and SB600. Larger images for your comparison: http://www.compsupportla.com/ebay/12...00148140-A.JPG http://www.compsupportla.com/ebay/12...00148140-B.JPG http://www.compsupportla.com/ebay/12...00148170-A.JPG http://www.compsupportla.com/ebay/12...00148170-B.JPG The '170 is cheaper because it has an older (slower GPU) chipset. Physically? Almost, because there are two holes (for mounting the southbridge heatsink?) that aren't there on the '170. It might or might not work with the existing heatsink you have.
Even if it fit perfectly, you would also need to figure out if the CPU is supported by the older board's chipset and BIOS. |

I'm assuming the '170's GPU didn't need a heatsink?

It did, but was probably mounted differently though.
