Hi Folks some curiosity, what cause the living fan to spin slowly after some years of use?
some said its carbon brush.. .some said its capacitor in it... worn off after some time... is there any fixes for it? thanks |

Maybe the axle that the fan spins on is out of grease or similar? or maybe there's something clogging up the mechanisms of the fan such as dust? I really don't know to be honest because this is the first report I've heard about a fan slowing down. The fan in my living room was purchased when I was born in the early 1990s and works like a charm until this day.
Thanks. |

sounds like the oil gummed up and caused too much drag.
does it run better after it warms up? if so take the motor apart, clean the bearings and their packing with brakekleen, let dry and oil with a good oil .i use mobil 1 |

I have heard that WD-40 has a limited effect because it is water based. Basically it dries out, this is something that is not desirable in a fan. That is what I have heard, not sure if it is true. Grease or good quality oil should be pretty good thou.

WD40 is an solvent, based on diesel fuel. It does evaporate within days or weeks and then it may be worser then b4.
So don`t use it alone, only use it to thin a thick oil, to get it into the bearings or to clean something. |
