    Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW

thanks jetadm123 for the reminder, I did now measured the pins 4 and 19 and also pins 19 and 23 of the F922L and they both open... no continuity... guess thats good

So can I plug it in and see if it works or should I assemble the whole monitor and then try it? Or should I measure some other points just to be sure...

    thanks

      Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW

I would say plug it in and measure for the 5V and 24V outputs at the wiring harness.

Thanks to this forum my Syncmaster 245bw is working again... I got a bit busy and didn't have the chance to test this monitor until today and voila... it works as good as when it was new...

So thank you guys for keeping all this knowledge going... it sure helps us tinkerers, LOL...

I got my samsung 245 bw working after changing the resistors, but unable to get any led lights on in the front power panel. OSD cannot be accessed and pressing the menu and power button at the same time seems to power off and on the monitor. Any help please?

              Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW

Hi everyone, I found these forums and this post after my 245b went.

I had sparks popping and a little smoke, taking it apart there was scorch marks on the power supply and on the plastic cover on the back

looks like a capacitor is/has going/gone and the main short seemed to be from a resistor just below the 'hot' text

unfortunately I am no good at soldering nor do I know anyone who is so replacing the caps etc (even is this is the main issue and is fixable this way) is not an option.

From what I have read the glue can cause the short however I was wondering if anything else could of caused the short? my surge protector the monitor is plugged into is fine.

The reason I ask is I am planing to get a replacement PSU for it, however I don't want to go waste £50 ~ £90 if it could be another component in the monitor that caused the issue in the first place, and thus would/could cause a replacement to blow too.

                Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW

That blue cap is the snubber cap in the 400V circuit section, you can remove all the glue and inspect the components (MOSFETs, Diode, resistors) to see if they are shorted or the legs are corroded by the glue.

                  Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW

I have a Syncmaster 245BW and the screen went dark prior to Christmas. I followed some of the instructions in this forum regarding replacing the three resisters and the blown capacitors and sure enough that fixed the problem.

Meanwhile my father has a Syncmaster 2943HM and by coincidence his monitor went dark last week with the usual blue light. I've determined that his BN44-00195A board is the culprit after substituting in my working BN44-0173A board to test it. His worked fine.

Therefore, I am going to take a crack at fixing his board although there are no "noticeable" caps bulging like there was on my board.

My actual question is this... since my Father is more than willing to pay for a whole board replacement and the cost of the board locally is $74.00, in the event that I cannot fix his board myself, which is the better board to get... the BN44-00173A or the BN44-00195A. Apparently they are interchangeable but is one better, more durable, more easily fixed in case of future problems, than the other?

Did you remove all the glue and inspect the components where the glues are used to see if it has any damaged sign? see link in post #627.

I have read the post but have not started working on the board yet.
The plan is to remove the glue as best as possible with isopropyl alchohol and then test the resisters and capacitors. I'll probably post a picture of the board shortly for anyone with expert eyes to have a look at and make suggestions on what area(s) to concentrate on.
As far as the BN44-00195A vs the BN44-00173A are concerned... any idea which would be the better board (if) I ended up ordering the whole board. Is one more durable than the other? Does one fail more often than the other?

                        Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW

With regards to the issue above I posted, I have done some work towards fixing the monitor, I originally said that I would just get a new board however I thought whats the most I could lose from trying, so following budm's advice I removed all the glue from that area and the small blue capacitor's leg was terribly corroded and just came off with the glue, there was just enough left on the capacitor itself to re-solder it on so I attempted it and thankfully was a fairly clean area to work with, not much else around, so done a pretty good job of re-soldering it on, replaced the fuse and hooked everything back up.

Its now working better than before (possibly just because I replaced the fuse)
The blue power light now stays solid if there is a video cable attached or not

I have not removed any more glue as some of the components do look like they are on their last legs and attempting to remove the glue looks like it would easily pull of the resisters/capacitors and as the scorch marks are located in a different area I took the chance that the rest of the board might be fine, same with the bulging capacitor, as I can't get any locally and would take a few days to get some thats still there too.

With the pictures above and the new update of the situation has anyone got any idea where to start, also anyone got a list of the resistors needed/used with glue over half of them I can't tell and because of my lack of confidence to solder I want to avoid as much soldering as possible :P

Thanks in advanced and thanks budm for your reply.

                          Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW

You are probably just wasting your time if you dont remove ALL the glue - it is corrosive and conductive. You need to replace the bulging caps as soon as possible as they can cause collateral damage which is a lot more difficult and expensive to fix. You also need a good base to start testing.
Currently cpc have fee next day delivery for internet orders - caps should be Panasonic
FR FM or FC - check they will physically fit. We do not usually give lists of caps as the manufacturers make revisions to the boards and add or remove caps from time to time and also change the values.
Best way is to get a camera take a picture print it and write the values on the pic.
You also need to get these caps in the right way round

Thanks for the advice selldoor, with the ceramic capacitors do they have the same issue as the electrolyte capacitors and do they have a positive and negative as the one I re-soldered I couldn't see any markings on the board or on the cap itself. are these liable to go or are these safe just to clean up and re-use as the short happened at the base of one of these ceramic ones.

also regarding multimeters, I read somewhere on these forums (and subsequently cant find the post again) that there are 2 types, one that has the sensitivity for the resistors and ones that dont.

Will look into the resistors and caps etc and replace any that are gone, in the meantime any ideas what could be wrong specifically, its a bit of a shot in the dark as there are glue over some of the components still, will re-take some pics once its cleaned up

                            Thanks

Check the capacitance of that blue rectangular cap right next to that small blue cap you circled, that is the common failure cap. Not removing all the glue will just cause more damages to the leads of the components and electrical leakage between circuits.

Small blade - sharpened toothbrush handle- dental pick - lots and lots of patience.
Glue may soften slightly with Isopropyl alcohol

It says 12 NJ 630v on it, according to https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...t=15843&page=3 that means its a 12nF capacitor, on cpc they only sell a 50v 12nf capacitor and everywhere else I have looked, ebay/amazon locally don't sell any, suggestions?
