I need to get that Simson also, one bad thing about DMM is that if the circuits still have residue voltage on the board, we you try to do the resistance testing, reading will be way off.

$24 winning bid was a good price.

That is a real nice meter too. I used one for a while. I have one that is a hangar queen, nice to look at, not much good to use. Got me a 260 from the friend of a friend, now to tune it up a bit....
Gave up and ordered an SSB. We'll see.... |

Found the same problem checking a battery pack. The DMM would not catch a bad solder joint, but the Simpson would. It needs significantly more current to operate....

Been out of town for a little while but while I was gone the SSB/main board came in. I installed it a couple days ago. Went through the setup/SSB configuration just as the parts place said (bought it from ShopJimmy's). It configured just fine. Pulled the power cord to load it and had a bad feeling. Before I sent it home with my son, just for grins I tried to power it up again. It went back to doing the exact same thing. Little blue light for about a second or two and then only a click. No power. I looked at the schematic for the power supply again but the parts I would replace (shotgun, really) would likely cost $15-$20 with shipping. The power supply board was only $28 with free shipping, so I ordered it. It should come Monday. I am hoping the SSB was not damaged so I can sell it on Ebay. (Or just keep it for a spare...) With my luck the SSB got fried again. Oh well, we will see. On the positive side, I have a Simpson 260 that works!

Did you ever fix the problem?
I have the exact same model and it will not turn on. I disconnected the LVDS connector on the top left of the SSB and applied power and the set came on as well as the back light and all voltages are good. I wonder if the power supply could cause this problem? Hope you got yours fixed! |

I replaced the SSB and the LVDS (left the new power supply in there, so I am not sure if it needed it or not, but I suspect not.) and it worked. Had to do some looking for a LVDS. Based on some help from a local TV guy who has been in the business in a while, if you pull the plug on the LVDS and the screen comes up, at least the LVDS is bad. My experience was the same as yours. That is why I replaced the LVDS. The SSB was definitely bad. I also suspect the LVDS killed the SSB.
My $.02. Also my $.02, ShopJimmy was very good to deal with. I will go back there when/if i need more parts. later, Mel D. |

Thanks for the info. I am sure the T-Con board is bad. I am hoping the SSB is still good. I've been searching for the T-Con board but everyone seems to be out of stock. I will keep checking. When I get a T-Con board i will let you know if it fixes the problem or if I have to also purchase the SSB
Later, Kurt |
