Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi,
I found this forum when looking for some info on my shuttle's dead PSU.
I hate switching power supply's as it is too hard to find circuit diagrams of the buggers.
I'm retired since 2 years after some 50 years repairing all kind of hardware, starting as a kid with fixing friends and relatives radios and other technical devices, Electronics engineering ant after that started with TV repair for a few years and after an update course on digital equipment I joined a printer manufactures technical service department, repairing all that needed repair, apart from the printers.
The last 31 years as H/W engineer for the same printer manufacturer, the last few year as quality acceptance manager.
My first computer was a small Sinclar and I still have somewhere a Sinclar QL with tape drives (and some tapes!!), but with a floppy interface for 3 1/4 floppies.
Never been S/W specialist, but over the years picked up a lot and can get by.
I still try to keep my own H/W stuff working but spend more time now building a house abroad.
    That's it more or less.
    Cheers,
    Joseph.

Giddeeyup© and Hell-o® to all. As you may have guessed I am new to these forums and Electrical and Electronics Engineering in general. My interest, at first, stemmed from my interest in the design and build of my own custom AnaLog Synthesizer(Musical Instrument). After a bit of initial research and tinkering with building a couple of small boards(Actually, one was a custom design intended to defeat the ECU's "Fuel_Cut" signal in my Toyota MR2..it worked and now I am hooked). Nothing to big though...if I had to guess I would have to say the max amount of components I have soldered on a single PCB would be around 15-20(maybe 40 total solder points). So anyhow, I'm excited to network with such a civilized group of humans that share this same infatuation huffing lead solder smoke! Cheers!!

Just wanted to say hello. I am not versed in the use of a lot of the termination or procedures but am willing to learn and become active. I have a 226bw Samsung. A cursed monitor. Oh well can't win them all.

Anyway, hello and hope to read and enter my own questions as soon as I am able.

                      Hello,
My name is Bill and my user name is Buffer and Jack (named after 2 great Beagles, sadly who have both passed). I've been building PCs since 1993 for family, friends, and also myself. I strive to build the best quality I can find (doesn't have to be the cutting edge fastest at the time) and keep them maintained and in service for as long as possible. My workhorse PC is based on a Soyo SY-P4-645DX Dragon Ultra motherboard which has been in service since November 2002. I recently took this PC out of service to perform some scheduled maintenance and noticed several swollen capacitors. This PC still performs great but for how much longer? I located Badcaps.net while searching for capacitor troubleshooting tips. This site has already helped me. I was going to order a collection of capacitors from my usual online supply vendor and if not for the advice on this site I would have ordered capacitors that would not have been low ESR. After navigating the badcaps.net website I anticipate ordering capacitors directly from this site.

Thanks and I'm happy to have found Badcaps.net!

                      Bill

                        Hello Members,
my Synonimous Name is "fwpowergen", which comes from the Job i was carryng out in the Past 40 Years (Quality of Aircraft Powergeneration), now i am a Pensioner and 63 Years old. My Interests are primary in Electronics and their Repairs of Domestic Equipment including DVR, Video, TV & Computer & Accesories. I was already able to repair up to now a lot of Equipments by my self. The last Repair was a DVD-Recorder Sony SLV-SE70 VHS, which was also repaired with Suggestions from the AVForums changing different Capacitors.
For my, it its very important the Ability to repair, today so many Equipment are throwed away, only with a very small Defect.
This is perhaps not the best Way for our Environment.
Now may hopefully there are good Tips and Sugestions from other Members.
                        Thats all for the Moment

New here myself. 43 years old. Played music most of my life (drums). Build custom pa sub boxes. Went to college about 8 years ago for networking and now hate computers. Currently work for a computer business that sells and rebuilds Dell junk, repair and service corporate networks, etc...
We normally have on hand an average of 200 - 300 Dell optiplex, Gateway and HP pc's with swollen capacitors. Our company has just begun to repair boards beginning the the Optiplex line. I have done 7 successful cap jobs with no failures yet
Recently found this great message board to hang out and learn! Only thing, I hate to read but am working on it.
Never knew a bad cap could cause so much trouble and is so easy to change until I found this place

hello, I'm currently residing in Phoenix and am grateful for all the prior posts relating to my gateway LP2407/FPD2485W which recently came down with the 2 seconds to black illness. I'm confident that I'll soon cure it.

I may also try to cure my recently deceased asus A8V that I used to use as a file server.
