Hello all,
I am Robert, and i have worked in the tv repair industry for decades.I stumbled upon this site from a google search relating to a board id number.

I've always been keen on hardware servicing to component level.I enjoy the challenge, and detest scrapping whole boards or sets due to a few components.

My other main intrest apart from my family,is my old 1971 Valiant Charger which i believe has no electrolytic caps in it.( points ignition, mechanical regulator,no radio)

I just love tinkering and I am learning to use this modern age tool (pc), and look forward to helping others around the forum where I can.

Hi!
I'm Julián, from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I found this board googling for confirmation on the repair of a MB with swollen caps, and luckily I was able to repair it. Now I have another PC with bad caps (a PCCHIPS xD) and i obviously came right here, and I thought i should register =)
I'm studying electronic engineering and I repair PCs part-time.
I also love to mantain and repair my 1988 Ford Escort (European line, but built here in Argentina).

See ya!

Hello all!
I came across this forum multiple times when looking up info on replacing capacitors over the years, and I decided to join because I have some blown caps in odd stuff not yet on the forum, so maybe if I share it I'll get better help fixing it.

I work on computers, so I come across my share of bad caps on mobos, PSUs, LCD monitors, you name it.

I live in canada, so I have limited resources, lol.

I am Mike.

Love to fix stuff. Desoldering is really cool in my books when the system fires back up.

No threat to BAD caps as I am a CPA.

Rock on.

Hi all,

My name is Renato, I like opening stuff and understand how they work.
And do not like to see 'good' stuff going to trash especially knowing most issues are easy to fix and might be planned by the manufacturer.

Greetings from Portugal.

Hi - have just come across this site while trying to fix a Dell monitor. I was amazed at the detailed technical help and insight offered by members - one of the best sources of information I have come across on the www.

Am posting this message of introduction as advised in the "welcome" email just received. Have to confess that vintage valve amps are more my area and I have not had a lot of experience with complex PCBs - other than looking for dry joints , bad connections, breaks, visibly burnt components ...and yes (literally) using my nose too!! Although it never ceases to amaze me how many faults on these boards can be fixed by such simple use of the senses (as opposed to years of cranial electronics training) I'm always trying to learn more in this area and look forward to doing so here.

Great site guys!

Well hello everybody !!! I'm Kev, from England UK, currently living in Somerset & running a small computer / electronics repair, service & customizing business.. First computer experience was a zx81 many moons ago - bought with the insurance money mom got when my bike was pinched from our garden shed - smart move !! Learned Basic with the old Sinclair manual.. fun stuff.. Trained as a Zanussi engineer years ago, been a car paint sprayer... etc etc, jack of all trades n master of some.. Went & did courses in electronics, robotics - (never came in handy), DTP using yee old Acorn Archimedes back in the day - RISC processors were the bomb back then !! Now doing mainly board level repairs & software installs with a liberal sprinkling of custom spray work to laptops & towers.. Oh, also repair other electricals.. tv, hifi etc etc.. Which has led me here once or twice for shortcuts & why I'm here today..
So that's me !!! Hello peeps..

Hi, I'm a new member!

I've been into computers since forever and I like to fix stuff as well. I joined today to research a vertical line problem I'm having with my VW266H monitor.

I'm on the East Coast of the US.

I see lots of guys had a Commodore 64, me too!!!! That was a great machine. Prior to that I played with PDP-11's and OSI Scientific uP's at school as well.

Hello everyone! I think this is gonna be a great resource for my hobby! I am a maintenance worker at a HUD elderly complex! I enjoy fixing stuff for my tenants! I retired from the manufacturing industry in 2004 due to disability. While in industry i was in electrical support and a mechanic. I have always enjoyed making things work when they don't! I look forward to being part of this community! Thanks

Hi, All

Just joined the forum to get advice on recapping my collection of aging machines.
I ordered a kit over a year ago, and just getting around to working on a Mac IIci.

The caps I got are the Tantalum SM's but I am replacing mostly the old "crap" Chinese "tin hat" types. Appreciate advice from anyone who has done this!

Machines range from original TRS-80, to Apple IIe Platinum, Apple IIc, Mac IIci, Powermacs 150 and G3...

I found your website searching for info on my Samsung LED tv. I do some repair work here at our office and figured this site would be a great tool to help out with my expeditions in electronics failures here at the workplace.
I've been reading all sorts of posts in the forums section and there really seem to be a bunch of knowledgeable people here so hopefully I will be able to take advantage of them soon!
Thanks for the cool site.
