You probably have seen fake electrolytic capacitors.
I think there should be a guide to detecting fake electrolytic capacitors, especially with respect to the bung, vent, and label.

My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics. |

I agree that an illustrated guide to fake caps would be good. lots of this has already been posted here with pics. That stuff sould be moved to the new forum.
Of course, good sources don't sell fake caps. Then again, some sizes are not readily available except as OEM caps from Asian suppliers. These may or may not be authentic. Once you've been burned you become better at spotting fakes! |
