My experience says the exact opposite about toshiba. Before the briefcase, I had nothing but Toshiba, and they all served me well, despite the rough treatment I gave them. We sell a lot of new ones at work too. They almost never come back (except over software and ID10T problems)

Same here... where should I send flowers?

(KIDDING)

That said, I do know someone with on of the I7 OC-able laptops... No complaints from him about it. Then again, he is a lot richer than I am.

Admittedly, I don't hate ASUS laptops as much as I hate their motherboards, but I'm still wary of them.

I have seen a lot of older Toshiba laptops that were reliable, but my Satellite L750 and many Toshiba laptops that were manufactured in the past few months are extremely unstable and nobody has been able to make them stable.

.
1. Go to Best Buy
2. Choose computer
3. Pay

Done

It said $399.99 on the tag, so that's what I paid for it. It was $439.99 with tax...

Typing from it right now!

Doesn't the price tag include tax like it does here?

Nope.

If they did people would complain about prices... The same reason why it was $399, not $400... When it comes to prices, many Americans are plain ass dumb.

I can only speak about my netbook (Asus eeePC 1005HA), but they're actually pretty solid. Took mine apart countless times for modding.
The only common flaw is the power socket (the pin in the middle which is thinner than a sewing needle can break off quite easily)
Other than that, there seem to be very few problems. The only thing I hate is the shitty glossy plastic literally everywhere.. but then again, tons of laptops, monitors and TVs have that fingerprint-magnet glossy/shiny plastic crap nowadays..

I was not much into hardware until one or two years ago. But since I have started to fix computers the one brand I have fix the most is hp. You told me to search the forum which I did. I did find bad and good things about Asus. For example, one poll shows 10 dislike and 19 likes, couple of posts said that Asus lied about bad capacitors years back, and some said their RMA is bad, too. For me personally, I would go, in order, from Asus, Toshiba, to Thinkpad over any brands. Why? honestly, other than this forum, I have heard nothing but good things about Asus. To back up my point, you can google search for best motherboard or best oc mb and see what you get. Some people still complain about asus rma process, but I rma one recently and got no problem with it. I can tell you that Asus quality and support for their products is top notch in the industry. Take any product from Toshiba or Asus, for example, and look up its bios update then compare that it's bios log to other brands and you will see the difference. Some people like brand name more than the actual quality of a product and that is fine. They have the right to choose which product they like. It's like telling apple fanboys don't drink coke because it's bad for you.

I think Asus makes good motherboards, I've had one fail before but that's out of many others I've had. Anyway, I'd steer clear of HP. I haven't had major issues with Toshiba and my Dell's are good too. I have a Thinkpad coming soon, we'll soon know whether Lenovo is good or not. :P
