ok, im pretty much a noob at soldering and this stuff cuz i just read up on it a few days ago, and you would NOT beleive the crap i had to go through to get an email to get onto this board, i was told you guys are very knowledgable about this stuff so enough of me sucking up, heres the question.
what is this cap? and where can i find one? ive looked online but cant seem to find solid state caps, if thats what this even is.. image below: http://img48.imageshack.us/my.php?image=asdfut5.jpg thanks 0oh btw, whats the big box thingy ontop that i circled in red, is that like a power choke or something similar? |

i think the box thing is an inductor |

hey, thanks for replying so fast, i was reading your website about caps like this but i wasnt exactly sure what the things ontop of the cap meant.
do you know where i can buy one of these? Last edited by daRk_Kon; 04-07-2007 at 01:25 PM.. Reason: forgot to add something |

no i dont know any source for polymer caps at that capacitance.
you can replace with the lowest esr wet electrolytics. pm topcat to see if he has something suitable. why do you ask about the inductor? what is the problem with the card? lets see some pics. |

well i need the polymer caps because the caps i have on another card are completely tore off, so i need to buy some caps. would regular caps even work?! you dont think it would make the voltage all sparatic in the card do you if i switched caps?
oh the only reason i asked about the inductor was because i was curious what it was, Last edited by daRk_Kon; 04-07-2007 at 02:13 PM.. Reason: none |

no i think it will be ok if you use a very low esr cap. i have used rubycon MCZ for similar repairs and no probs. topcat may have a Samxon cap with superior specs than the MCZ. maybe you sacrifice some overclockability but that is better than a non working card.
The lower cap appears to have circles on the board markings indicating a radial cap can be used (two holes through the board). is that the same for the other caps on your card. The ones with the black plastic base are chip type not radial. is it a 6600gt? btw if you require caps for a card with different capacitance you can get chemicon PSA at digikey. the max capacitance is 820uf in the 4v Last edited by willawake; 04-07-2007 at 02:22 PM.. |

damn, why dont they sell 1200uF 4v caps?
anyways, you are correct, it is a 6600gt, heres the pic of the actual card that is well, foobar. heres a pick of one of them, as i dont have the card in my posession yet, but i will very soon. http://img249.imageshack.us/my.php?image=asdf2mx7.jpg but as you can see, its missing quite a few capacitors and other things |

okay, went searching for an hour or two and i found out that, it can be 1200uF 4v the volts doesnt matter as long as its 4v or higher is that right or no?
by the way, are these also them? http://www.rssingapore.com/cgi-bin/b...cape&Nr=avl:sg well can i use say a 1200uF but with 6.3v? that wouldnt damage anything would it? |

well, you can disregaurd everything i said about the 6600gts because turns out im getting mx 440s instead, that dont work so i will have a WAY better time of finding caps for these cards.

Oscons are availiable from waifon aka pcbulb.
Still pretty expensive. As mentioned above, it should be safe to replace an Oscon with a ultra low ESR typ of standard AL caps. But the capacitance should and especially the ripple current capability shoul fit the needs. |

Hm i have bought SEPC 2.5V 2700µF. I assume all the SEPC series may fit into mobo holes and gfx holes.
At leas t i have had no problems put them in. I would not hesitate to put them on a GFX card. But ok, 2.5v is may be to low for GFX card and in the 4v sections there anren`t that mutch SEPC caps with higher capacitance. |
