Re: Sony KDL-46W4000 (2 blink code)

Sorry I'm new to testing a resistor, how should I test it? Probes either side on 200 ohms?? This is the resistor correct? Just would hate to do something wrong.

Put multimeter on 200 ohms and it measured 3.6 then dropped and fluctuated between 2.7 -2.2

With the switch activated it's reading 1.6

            That is correct.

No power APPLY to the TV.
Set meter to 200 Ohms scale, then touch the two probes of your meter together and note the reding, then put the probes on the two legs of the resistor, the display should show about the same as when you touch the two probes together (<1 Ohm).

Touching the two probes together is 1.4 - 1.6 and on the resistor it's 1.9 -2.0 with no power

OK, the resistor is not bad, so now we will need to look deeper in the 12V power supply section, that will be tomorrow.

OK, sorry I did not see the post, it is usually shows up in BOLD for the thread that I have not read yet.
You need to remove C6111 (0.018uF 1000V) and find out if the capacitance is still within the spec., the cap should be around transformer T6100 for the 12V power supply.
                              Also check R6120 (0.22 Ohms 2W).

Do I need to get an ESR meter to test the capacitance? I only have a very basic DMM.

For that cap, it usually lose its capacitance when it goes bad, so for now just verify the capacitance, SAMASUNG has common failure with the same type of cap in the same application of the circuit.

I removed C6111 from circuit and from what I read to put DMM on Ohms? It read nothing at all, tried volts as well and nothing came up.

When I had C6111 in circuit and at 2000k it showed 270 Ohms and 0.02 Volts. With the switch activated it showed 384 Ohms.

Tested R6120 and that showed 00.8 Ohms at 200 on DMM.

Attached a picture to confirm I tested the right ones.

You need a esr meter really to test the esr and uf etc rating on capacitors as budm post 36 most bad caps lose its capacitance.

You need to remove it and use capacitance meter to test the capacitance of that cap.

I did ask if I needed an esr meter in the previous post but I felt it wasn't answered so I went ahead with the DMM.

I'll buy one off ebay. Unfortunately it'll take a few weeks to receive. I'll post when I get it.
