Yay!

I just scored nicely from somebody else's Bad Antec Experience!

Just for laughs, I eBayed for "Antec", newly listed and found a nice NEW Earthwatts 500 for well under $40 including shipping!

It seems that the seller had a Smartpower fail on him and they eventually sent him this one in return. But it took so long he had already bought another one!
So he put it on eBay cheap and I bought it!

I actually already have one in a Sonata 3 case that I got on a great sale (for a build that might come up)... Aren't these the Seasonic-built units full of OST caps? I've been using SU380 and Earthwatt 380s (with OST) for awhile now in various builds.. no problems yet with the Seasonic Antecs.

I would immediately pull the OST caps in these things, but they (Earthwatts) are highly rated as is. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...=Story&reid=35

Does anyone know of the OST Antecs going all Fuhjyyu on us?

It would be nice to get the regular Seasonic seasonics just for the better caps. My high-end builds generally have S-12 Seasonics in them. (5 out there so far).

waiting for the mail lady,
Keri

Depends on how old it is.
Antec changed OEM sources on some models and as I recall that's one of them.
I -think- the new OEM for those is Delta and as with the Seasonic versions it's a costed-down cheaper build.

Yay!

I got the Earthwatts 500 today.

It's the Delta made one, not a Seasonic. The model number is EA-500D,
it's got 2 PCIe connectors and an EPS.

Caps are Samxon for the Primary, CapXon, Ltec and UCC KZH for the secondary. The UCCs appear to be on the 12v.
Probably they just threw the 6.3V and 10v CapXon and Ltec in there to keep Antec's reputation intact.

Zowie, this thing looks strong. Heavy, too. Betcha it's a keeper.

Have Fun!
Keri

servers usually take much more beating than home machines.
if server lasts 2-3 years(they probably lasted more, right? these fsp psus) home pc can probably triple that....

then again some home users run their machines 24/7....

These are server model but just used in tower cases vs 2U, 4U, or whatever.
Back office kind of thing. 8-10 hours a day maybe.

OST are on 12v PI filter 'out'. All blown.
Fuhjyyu on 5v PI filter 'out'. All blown.
Teapo on 3.3v PI filter 'out'. Blown in 1 of the 5 units.
Rest of caps are all Teapo which are -mostly- okay.
In one of them every friggen major filter cap is bloated. (1 OST, 1 F*Ku, and 7 Teapos.)
.
I do like these PSU's though. Easy rebuild.
All 12.5mm caps in output section. ~YAY~
Still have to pay attention because height can be an issue.

Update on the Antec RMA drama... faxed over the receipt as requested and never heard back from them. Called. No callback. Been too busy at work to follow up again.
I retract my earlier statement that they are shaping up. They are bastards again. :-)

4-5 years by caps dates but I dunno how long some were 'parked'. Two were still in use. The model is still being made so I understand. Willa photoed one but his has different caps. Probably different age. Where light blue Teapo is in his, mine have 4700uF 10v Fuhjyyu. Next to Fuhjyyu is the OST at 3300uF 16v. There are two 12.5mm 2200uF 10v Teapo (green SC series) back under the heatsink where you can't see except through vent in top photo. All the others are either 10v or 16v 3300uF. Height restriction in Fuhjyuu and OST positions is ~36mm. The others are ~32mm max. Recapping with Nichicon PW and Samxon RS.

I bought an EA-500D just to look at the guts and there is only one LTEC bigger than 5mm.
- And only two 5mm or smaller.
It's a 1000uF 10v 8mm in +5vsb output and it's right in the suction of the fan so it's well cooled and not hard to get to if it does need replaced.
It's LZG series 1050/.070 so an FC wouldn't be enough but a KZE or ZL would be an upgrade.

I think you're right. It's a keeper...
Even if it's just because this would be so easy to recap..
