My first post.
I have a ms6728, started smelling like hamburg, bothered my nose, and pop. shutdown. the cooling is all reverse, custom duct,I followed the very original atx standard from 1999 (my best luck ever) the top left corner (infamous, even in an secc case with 6 coats of urethane) was burned and dirty under a mosfet. the paint and shininess came off the board and I could see copper clean, so whatever it was, happened fast.I took heatsink off mosfets, there was a dirty poison alkalinic lookin something and the back half of two mosfets were not on the board....no odors. a swollen cap nearby 2200uF 16v. So, I read the faq, found some top grade replacement for 79 cents... The risk is that of the mosfet and dirty popped off connection, except, I took them off the board found specs, and they are capable of 175C! So the risk for 79 cents, I sanded the mosfets, the spots on the board, and wallah, took to the board like they belonged, a dabble of clean solder. I doubt it is going to work, the machine has 23,900 hours of runtime since new, with a 73% uptime. months may have gone by, I can't remember 3.7 years and my machine exactly. but with my doubts, and knowing my favorite board ate a cap (just one) and shut down safely, and no restart, I am going to get another exactly the same, and use what I learned and put higher grade in, the (2200uF anyway), before it begins. I have ten years of nothing but flunk, 1,2,3 years in at a time. all my boards stay clean cooled, cases filtered, I went for apfc last year etc etc...I am just going to upgrade stuff as I get it. just wanted to say thanks for the faq, and supply source, I really do not even have a question.... except, there is a best. What is it? especially the 2200uF... |
