    Fake Nichicon 100uF 450v GN (M)

    Hello,
Just opened a fake Nichicon cap. Checked the technical data, and nothing matches. The capacitance and ESR are okay though. Interestingly, the legs are made of brass

It doesn't look fake to me. Brass legs? I don't see that.
"capacitance and ESR are okay" but nothing matches technical data. What do you mean?

I mean that as per the GN series technical datasheet, the dimensions and label of this cap do not match. This cap is 40x22mm with blue label. But as per datasheet the label should be black and dimensions max. 25x35mm. The specs may have changed and this might be an old one. Maybe this cap has been salvaged.
Regarding the legs, it didn't stick to a magnet, so I scraped it and found that it was brass.

        when it was produced?
based on the current datasheet 40*22 is size for 100uF*500V
but I never seen Nichicon with such top picture

Capacitor Diarrhea - Nichicon PL Series
            by DrewPhillips
Hello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.

The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...

            Mid/late 80's Nichicon Yellow Caps
            by nick3092
I recently acquired a set of Bose Roomate speakers from the mid to late 80's. Basically the right speaker cabinet is completely passive, and the left one has the power transformer and amplifier circuit in it. Out of curiosity, I opened it up to see what the circuit looked like. Looks like they used all Nichicon VX (2x 4700uF/16v for smoothing off the bridge rectifier), a couple random Nichicon SE series sprinkled on the board, and what really caught my eye - 2 yellow sleeved Nichicon caps (both 1uF/50v with no real series marking. Below are pictures of the caps. The only thing not shown in these...

Fake Nichicon capacitors with almost-perfect sleeve?

Fake Nichicon capacitors with an almost-perfect sleeve?

Same font, perfect logo, same size of the sleeve. The air vent looks okay. The diameter of the capacitors is correct per datasheet.

It truly looks like the real thing.
I doubt that you would distinguish it from a genuine one.. if it wasn't for the bung.

Shall we be afraid, at this point, that even the bung can be replicated?...

            Fake Nichicon PS series?
            by s675
3 or 4 years ago I purchased a TDA7293 amplifier board from eBay.

I have never used it, but I looked at at and noticed that the large filter caps are ostensibly Nichicon PS(M) 2200uf 50v. They measure around 16x26mm (15x25mm?).

I was surprised that a cheap board would come with capacitors like these. The small ones on the rest of the board are various cheap brands.

This is more curiosity than anything else, but I wondered whether they are fake. In particular I noticed the difference in heat-shrink at the top, and the slightly different looking vents....

Is there datasheet for nichicon LXJ series?
            by chth96
I want to calculate capacitor ESR referring to below guide.

            https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633

            I must find out dissipation factor(Tan(δ)) for nichicon lxj series(6.3v 1500uf,25v 1000uf ,10v 2200uf)
I finally found out datasheet which has all series of nichicon capacitor. But unfortunately, It removed old nichicon capacitor.
Is there anyone who still has old nichicon datasheet which has information of LXJ series?
