    Fujiyuus

    I have a capacitor question.

I recently opened up my Antec 500W Truepower supply. When I saw through the rear fan some Fujiyuu caps bulging and found the secondary filter Fujiyuus bulging also and showing the beginning signs of leaking electrolyte.

Whats the deal I thought Antec made quality supplies? Thats why I bought it.

Is this just a fluke or is this a recurring theme with these caps?

Has Antec fixed this on the newer supplies because replacing those caps was a real pita. I needed tweezers to get the ones under the heatsinks.

I decided to replace them all even the Konshins which sounds like a Chinamart brand as well with Ninpon Chemicons. Luckily the primary filters were Matsushita with the T stamped vents. The primaries are usually the most expensive due to their high working voltages so I guess I lucked out there.

What is even scarier I think I have another similar Antec running my server 24/7 .

    Re: Fujiyuus

Not that long ago, all Antec power supplies had Fujiyuus and other known bad caps in them. However some people on these forums have reported that Antec has finally decided to invest in some better capacitors and actually they have alright caps now.

However my guess is that most stores will still have the old Antec power supplies in stock. So customers will get power supplies with bad caps until they get more stock (which hopefully have good caps).

Yes, it's odd how a PSU will sometimes just seemingly go forever and another won't. My SL350 finally decided to quit working correctly, a little while back, due to bad caps. Whereas my brother has the exact same PSU in his system, which runs 24/7, for the most part and has not yet begun to act up. Perhaps it's all the on/off cycles mine does which did it in. Anyway, recapped with Samxon GC/GD and it works great. I'm about to do a PP-303X as well. w00t!

Glad to hear that they sorted it out.

I would expect cheap caps in a "came with the case supply" but expect a little more from a name brand.

No harm no foul I guess since I caught it before it became a paperweight.

The smartpower, smartpower 2, truepower, and truepower 2 lines had bad caps in them. The others (neoHE, earthwatts, basiq, trio, and quattro) are all fine.

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!

I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

                      Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps

                      Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."
                      ...

                      Picking caps for Antec SU-380
                      by ajdrenter
In my search for a proper 5v heavy ATX power supply, I selected an old Antec SU-380 that I've had in storage for a long time. Opening the power supply reveals a couple bulged capacitors. I removed all the caps and made a map for myself. I found the datasheet for the PCE TUR series in this thread:
                      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14159
It says these are general purpose, so I assume I can replace them with any general purpose capacitors, but I don't really know anything about power supply circuits or reading capacitor datasheets. Despite this, I've been shopping for replacements:...

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
                      by Paxman_Swede
                      Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

Help with switching power supply caps
                      by captain150
I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...
