    4K monitor - should I?

Tossing up over a new monitor because my iMac is getting quite old (2008 Intel model)... and the new software my work uses doesn't exactly function well on OSX (could put Windows, but cant be bothered).

So I was looking to build a new Core i3 or i5 system with some low end 750Ti 2GB card that can support 4K displays.

I do a fair bit of graphics work and 4K seems quite appealing to someone like myself. I haven't looked at IPS 2K, but apparently that's good too... though the $60 price difference isn't really selling to me over a 4K display which is probably better.

So what I wanted to ask was... does anyone have experience with 4K monitors? also, will I be able to read my Windows taskbar as I am aware, the words will be uber tiny!

meh....the ones I've seen didn't dazzle me. 30" 2560x1600 16:10 IPS is like looking into God's eyes and seeing the heavens. 16:9 is fine for TV, but any power user or graphics artist will laugh at it. The extra vertical real estate is well worth it.

Can't go wrong with a Dell u3011, or u3014 if you want LED backlighting.

If I ever invest that kind of dough on a high-end screen, it will have to be compatible with gSync.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

My friend is a professional designer, his 3 large monitors aren't 4k. But then he doesn't do 4k video work.

what size? I tried a pair of 30's in landscape, there was too much head turning! I never thought I'd say this, but they were just too much. I did not try them in portrait, which I think would have been awesome....but with their stock stands, they can not be used that way. I'd have to get aftermarket stands for them.

I think they are only about 24", one for the workspace, one for tools and one for communications.

If 4:3 or 5:4 4k monitors came around I would definitely say yes but only the heavens can grant that in a 19" package. As it stands though- there really isn't much to gain save for a sliver of extra vertical realestate otherwise.
