    Restoration UM400 - 4 Screen PC

Hi guys, as some of you know from the "best cheap/free scores 1.1" I picked this beast up about a month ago from eBay.

It's quite a unique item, I haven't seen one in the 10 years or so of owning PC's and I thought this would be pretty cool project to work on and perhaps some of you may be interested in following / helping.

Plan is to get it up and running first and see how this thing operates, its got some custom stuff in there so may be a bit of a challenge. If / once I have got it up and running I'm thinking of converting it into a gaming rig of sorts, perhaps flight simulator or a racer.

Hoping screens are a decent res, 1280 x 1024 would be nice, so would span to 3840 x 1024 which is close enough to ultra wide 1080p, just shy of half 4k.

Bugger had a few spiders in it and full of cobwebs so being the man I am sprayed it with some bug killer and let it sit a while. Jumpy removing every panel, these ******s are out to get me

So got it opened up, here are a few shots

At least it's a Seasonic. Can anyone identify PSU? is it a custom jobby or off the shelf? cant see to fine model number online. Seasonic SS-460UMD

And can anyone identify GPU?, no model number or identifying text on in what ever.

Looks like PSU is dead, which is probably a good thing as could be a simple fix. Has got some custom connectors powering monitors, custom pcb board and something else but should be simple enough. Just looks like monitors are running off a 12v line from PSU so is just a matter of soldering one end to 12v / ground off new PSU or just modding all the connectors to molex connectors.

Anyone know the name of these connectors?

Really not sure what's up with the video cards. I don't see a BIOS rom anywhere on the card itself. Your best bet would be shove it into another system and see what shows up or just pull the two clips holding the heatsink on and see what's under the heatsink. If the clips break just use small bolts to replace.

            Is that connector a 2 or 4 pin? 2 pin is probably a Molex 39-01-2020 and 4 pin probably a Molex 39-01-2040

Edit: On the topic of video cards, from the umdigital website via the web archive it seems there's a chance the cards are Geforce 4 MX440s or RIVA TNT M64s. Still don't see a BIOS though, possibly some sort of custom card that can't be initialized by the system BIOS?

It's got 3 of these mx 440 cards and then a different ago card for 4th display.

So perhaps they are cut back versions and the agp card handles the initialisation.

Ati rage ultra 128mb agp (1027311402)

U12 could be the BIOS chip.

A graphics card does need a BIOS, without it it can not work...

those connectors, unplug one and take a foto of the face - then get the size of it.
                    i suspect it's a molex micro-match but get the foto's

The male connector is 20mm and has square hollow pins

The female connector is 25mm and has rounded pins

is the size / pin spacing the same as an atx power connector?

Yeah, that's a Molex 39-01-2020 connector. You can see a picture here: http://www.interstatebatteries.com/1...y-apa0530.html

Yes exactly same style as the atx connectors, like on the 20/24pin motherboard connector, they even fit into it

                                      Female is a Molex 39-01-3023.

That 3 pin looks like a Molex 43645-0300 male and 39-01-4033 female. Not 100% exact pins, but the difference is the center pin has a little notch on it but it'll fit into the square hole fine.

Cheers, could I just convert them to molex safely?

As I have molex plugs and pins at home.

or perhaps even into a 8pin PCI-E connector and power the whole lot from one connector rather than having 4 separate wires.

4 Ground and 4 12V into a PCI-E connector should be enough to cover all displays
