    Socket 939

I was just browsing looking for a MOBO SK939 and I'm not able to find one.

I can find some MOBO for sk 478, few for sk 754 but none for socket 939.

I'm just curios why it is in this way, was AMD socket 939 a bad/unlucky processor line?

Ok Intel sells more CPU than AMD, but sk 478 is older than sk 939 AFAIK ... but seems easy to find MOBO for older socket or it's just me?

    Ciao

    Re: Socket 939

socket 939 had some issues, and was very quickly replaced by AM2. It was AMDs shortest-lived socket. I'm using a 939 system at my part-time job, and have had no problems. We also have a 939 processor just sitting in a box because of a lack of boards.

Yep, we had a A8N-SLI... I think it toasted, and that's where the spare proc came from.

Another big limitation was that they only supported DDR, NOT DDR2!

but thats based on the CPU, because those had the memory controller built in (like the new Core i7 crap)

i don't like the idea of an integrated memory controller at all...

Why? No northbridge needed (except for integraded graphics,) and everything connects directly to the processor. One of the main reasons why AMD 64's were so much faster than pentium 4's.
