    Good freeware tools

I have been looking for a JPG batch resizer which not only allows you to specify the size of the resized image in pixels (most do only that for the web) but instead to specify the size of the image in cm and change the dpi.

For instance when the office is doing reports which have many digital photographs in, we dont need the full size digital file, we just need them at 15cm print width at 300dpi.

Finally i found a software to do this : IrfanView.
    http://www.irfanview.com/
And the batch process is easy to set up so dumb users can just click a few buttons to get the source and destination folders right.

Not only that but it looks like it will replace my Acdsee image viewer as it has all the functions i need, is fast and very customisable.

Another great freeware solution. Anybody got other freeware progs to recommend?

ImageMagick does batch resizing and just about everything else imaginable...

or use GIMP. gimp really does about everything imaginable.

Winmail Opener - the best tool for opening tnef winmail.dat files you receive from outlook/exchange users. You can try also fentun or wmdecode but this one is the best.

                    http://www.eolsoft.com/freeware/winmail_opener/

Word 2003 XML viewer. Oh great another format people are sending now. Word 2003 WordprocessingML files which have the extension .xml
Now .xml is an internet format, you should be able to read it with a browser i guess? not in this case. You can download the following tool and then the .xml file can be seen in IE.

There are some great free tools out there!

DVD Shrink: Free DVD Ripping, Shrinking and Backup application.
                              http://www.dvdshrink.org

Audacity: Open source sound recorder and editor.
                              http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

VLC media player: Free portable media player, will play just about anything you throw at it. Uses its own codecs rather than relying on Windows.
                              http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

VirtualDubMod: Similar to the original VirtualDub, however it supports MPEG files as well as AVI.
                              http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/

AVISynth: Video frameserver, works with AVI natively, does support MPEG and others with plugins. Brilliant tool for me.
                              http://avisynth.org/

DGMPGDec: MPEG 1 and 2 decoder for AVISynth.
                              http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec.html

PDFCreator: Open Source PDF Printer that seems to work very well.
                              http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

Daemon Tools: Free Virtual DVD-ROM program. Can circumvent various copy protection measures with help from other applications (mainly due to the fact that most protected applications black list the virtual DVD-ROM drive).
                              http://www.daemon-tools.cc

Hamachi: Zero-configuration virtual private networking. Free version has some small limitations. I use it all the time to play games over the VPN connection with friends. Of course it has many other uses.
                              http://www.hamachi.cc/

Hope some of these are useful to the board members.

                                CmdAsSys.Exe from the author's package "localsystem.rar".

                                http://assarbad.net/en/stuff

This utility comes with Delphi 3/4 source, and lets the user open a CMD window using the SYSTEM context. This is useful for overcoming rights issues on directories and files.

One example is remote user profiles under Citrix or Terminal Server. By default, the default Group Policy allows creation of redirected folders as Exclusive Rights to user. This quite effectively bars administrators from accessing these directories. In many cases this is not acceptable, such as pending lawsuits, etc.

The administrator can launch a command window in the SYSTEM context, then execute CACLS to grant Administrator:Full rights to the top level share, and all child directories and files. It is non-destructive to user profiles.
