Decipher part of this please: 4.7U_0805_25V6K
From a Dell laptop schematic, they list this SMD capacitor: 4.7U_0805_25V6K
I understand it all except the 6K at the end. What does that mean? 4.7U is capacitance 0805 is size of SMD capacitor 25V is 25 volts. 6K ??? Thanks |

My ideas so far for the meaning of 6K:

Re: Decipher part of this please: 4.7U_0805_25V6K
There's no way a 0805 has terminals spaced far enough apart to handle 6KV without arcing. The "K" could be 10% tolerance. Or maybe "6K" could designate the tempco (though the terminology would be something like "X7R" or "Y5V" or "Z5U").

In case it helps, the motherboard is a Compal LA-7781P - Dell Latitude E6430

Re: Decipher part of this please: 4.7U_0805_25V6K
Doing more searches on my question, I was able to finally find something that may make sense on this. A German site had my same question on it and they speculated that the 6K represented the minimum purchase quantity for the item. But I will continue to search on this and post any relevant findings.
One other thing.... In the schematic for this board, they have many capacitors with this label... 4.7U_0805_25V6K~D I thought the 'K~D' was very interesting to note! |
Re: Decipher part of this please: 4.7U_0805_25V6K
I've seen some identified as 7U_0805_25V6-K and have also seen the 6 replaced with a 7.
I'm with PeteS , K is tolerance and the 6 is the tempco. It's not ordering quantity. |
Re: Decipher part of this please: 4.7U_0805_25V6K
A found a few charts listing the codes for temperature coefficient (tempco) for capacitors, but I'm not sure I understood what 6 actually stands for. It seemed that some of the coding standards had different meanings for a 6. Would someone have a link to an article or chart that would describe what 6 means in this situation?
