Re: What kind of soldering type is on XBOX 360

Can you tell us what brand and model of soldering iron(s) you have?

For Xbox 360 board work, you really need a powerful iron (50 Watts or more) with tips that have built-in heating element. That...

Re: Can a DC motor start then just ... stop?

That looks like a standard "280" size motor, more or less, but with sealed metal back instead of usual plastic cap. Of course, this being from Amazon, there's very little technical information, let...

Re: Sony CFD-E55 boombox blown line transformer & repair

Nice.

Well, I certainly wouldn't blame that Phillips FW330. In the 90's and even in the early 2000's, these type of home audio systems almost always used line type transformers and not SMPS. So...

Re: Vizio Soundbar VSB200B Overheating

So what (if anything) brought this change in behavior? Did you test the soundbar differently? If there is a change in the error/problem without you doing anything different, that should be noted as a...

Re: Anyone build their own equipment? Plans for small benchtop power supply.

Boost converter??
Are you boosting a lower voltage to a higher one? (Such as car subwoofer audio amps do.)
Or are you talking about a buck converter / buck regulator / switching regulator for...

Re: Sonos playbar power supply help

I don't know about leaving it dipped an entire night, but an hour or two should probably do the trick. If you just dip it and remove right away, then varnish may not get to the inner layers/windings,...

Re: Can I substitute these capacitors on a D865PERL motherboard?

If the small caps are not as easy for you, then I suggest going with what kaboom said and just add a few of the 1500 uF caps in parallel (solder them on the bottom of the PCB most likely) to the VRM...

Re: Booting from USB3.0 PCI-E card?

Lol.
My method has only been successful on this one ECS MCP61PM-AM motherboard (from a Gateway GT-5656 PC), so far. :D

USB still works after those punches and board seems to be stable overall.

Re: Fake Nichicon PS series?

LOL.

I bought one of those TDA7293 boards recently as well for GP speaker tests and whatnot (but may end up using it in a small subwoofer that has a control board more complex than a space...

Re: Dell U3011 - Troubleshooting the Power Supply board PS-2201-3-HF

So would that be the same issue as the O/P's? - i.e. PSU clicking and/or not turning On? If no, you may want to start a new thread, detailing the new/other issues you're having. And whichever the...

Re: Sonos playbar power supply help

I don't think you'll be able to find an exact replacement transformer anywhere. Most transformers are custom-made for each PSU design. (PC ATX PSUs and LCD monitor CCFL inverter transformers being...

Re: Reballing Fusion IC

Could you post a picture of the IC, and more specifically of the corroded pads, if possible?
Also, are you sure the pads weren't ripped off? If that's the case, the spot where the pad was will look...

Re: Fake KZE 680uf 16v?

As many as you like - at least for low voltage caps like these anyways. Now, if dealing with caps where the reform voltage has to be so high as to cause significant dissipation over the series...

Re: Can I substitute these capacitors on a D865PERL motherboard?

I second this ^

Replace all small caps around the RAM, Northbridge, and Southbridge areas with at least entry-level low-ESR caps, like Kaboom suggested.

If you can't find those, here is a more...

Re: K7T266 Pro2 (MSI MS-6380), damaged caps!

Sounds good.

If you intend to do more motherboard recapping in the future though, then make sure you have a good soldering iron. Motherboards can suck out a lot of heat, especially for the caps...

Re: The (now the death of) Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

So my guess about what I least expected it to be is what it's going to be, lol. :D

With a case that large, the only thing I can think of is some kind of a load tester / active load device for...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

For PSUs, reducing capacitance while also reducing the ESR actually increases the risk of oscillation... but in most cases (it does vary a bit with designs) you have to get silly with the ESR...

Re: junky Jetway P4MDPT board

Nice. :)
A lot of older boards didn't care as much about low-ESR caps (particularly early Pentium 4 boards and ones older than that.)

The arrangement of those caps look similar to an ECS...

Re: Help on Samsung Syncmaster T220 dead ccfl lamp

I like it. :)
Simple / "lazy" fixes like this are sometimes quite alright. Most likely the monitor will probably work OK for a decent amount of time, if not until it is no longer useful anyways.

Re: Herbalizer - Loss of temp regulation

It does.
That means whatever is reading the temperature may actually be working fine.

In that case, I suggest to check the Gate drive circuitry directly connected to QX1. So that would be R61,...

Re: The Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

Whaaa??
If it's not going to be a PC then what could it be? Maybe a massive drive-filled NAS? At least it doesn't look like you're going to transform this into anything like test equipment or some...

Re: Blown cap

Well, APFC is a whole another story. Even good Japanese caps fail there sometimes, particularly if the manufacturer penny-pinched and used 85C -rated caps instead of 105C -rated caps... and also 400V...

Re: Fake KZE 680uf 16v?

Let us know what you find.

The seller is based off of Potomac, MD, which isn't that far from me.
Would be a good deal if they are genuine.

I don't think the text can be used too much to tell...

The Supermicro tree dropped something interesting again? :)

Re: Herbalizer - Loss of temp regulation

Ah Ok, sorry about the misunderstanding.

In that case, I second redwire's advice. See which component gives feedback for the temperature back to the board and make sure it is working...
