looks split in the middle . no idea if its safe or even possible to swap the feeds to the tcon to see if its main or tcon . i would clean connections first

Q2 is controlled by its base .

whoops i meant C to E .
anyway if Q2 base was monitored and it stays the same then it should be staying out of mute .
i would have added wires to Q2 C and E and shorted them when it went back into...

looking at the schematic it looks like there should be 10v B to E on Q2 .. seems a bit much to me .

all i have seen wrong with similar ones is dead batteries failed switches and bad solder joints . and corrosion .

there is a frequency counter device for that job then . seen them used for car key programming to car .

q2 should be pulling the voltage down at the mute pin .
check voltages again at q2 .

dont force it in any way or it will rip the pads off the board .been there done that . hot air is best if your back can take it unlike mine .
