Re: HDD Spins up and down again at power on

Looks like the tables may have turned. Seagate with their high-end HDDs, possibly better than Western Digital now!

They extremely likely will be, if Western Digital can't get their corrosion...

Re: Nora NTF-2642T, what it's worth?

Looks like a CFL fixture and ballast. (not SBCFL)

Looks like the fixture was made in 2004. And looks like the CFL was made in 2014? (One of the character markings odd)

Re: PCs aren't extinct! (version 2.0)

True, if it's a place like HCRS, LOL! HCRS has a bunch of SFF PCs, the last time I checked in the main HCRS building. (tiny boxes)

Sure, I don't expect it to be near exactly like the days you're...

Re: PCs aren't extinct! (version 2.0)

Of course, I was talking about a lot of stuff in stock that are likely made better than that. They usually use caps that aren't so failure prone, except for PSUs that are less than gold-rated,...

Re: PCs aren't extinct! (version 2.0)

If people think that a good PC era isn't in the works, then why do I see a lot more gaming gear than I had in a while?

I remember that in the early-2010s, the West Lebanon, New Hampshire Best Buy...

Re: PCs aren't extinct! (version 2.0)

I got super creative on January 3, 2020, I suddenly found a bunch of new goodies in stock at the West Lebanon, New Hampshire Best Buy and got everything for my first Ryzen build!

I didn't need to...

PCs aren't extinct! (version 2.0)

Clearly, the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 were the "PC malaise era"!

https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=48153&page=2

I noticed things were much better in 2019 and even now...

Re: A Colossal HDD Failure

I had what I think was a lemon 7200.7 in 2005. I bought it at the Claremont, New Hampshire Wal-Mart, on May 14, 2005, IIRC. I returned it on June 2, 2005, after I was hearing a random squeaking when...

Re: Altec MX6021

That's what I feared, when I was at 285 Clinton St. in Springfield, Vermont during April, 2016 and May, 2016. I saw the signs while looking at my UPS!

Luckily, I was safe at the time, but there...

Re: Soldering with a tremor.

Is it only a hand-tremor? (hand shaking) I tend to get that when holding Intel CPUs, right before getting them into the socket!

Re: Killed my Asus A7V266-E? Need advice

In that era, "-VM"s have things disabled by Asus. The "-VM"s of that era, are synonymous with crippled!

While the "-E"s OTOH, are synonymous with loaded, especially with the Asus A7N8X-E of 2004....

Re: Killed my Asus A7V266-E? Need advice

The video of a T-bird frying, was with the heatsink taken off with a 3D game running, IIRC, LOL.

Re: element elefw651 audio crackles then tv reboots

Re: Not Even BCN's Russia Connections Can Top This One - Supermicro S2DGU Build

It's been sitting for months now, hoping that it's not a bad socket pin to the IMC! As I apparently can't even use the same "addition RAM" that I can in another Asus X58 motherboard, FFS!
Because I...

Re: It's "patch-Tuesday", people!

Yes, Microsoft will tell you the fixes in the update, but 10 normally just goes ahead and attempts to update, even when done the wrong way, apparently, sometimes.

Re: It's "patch-Tuesday", people!

It wasn't disastrous like the March patch-Tuesday.

No Windows Update error code shown in March, but SFC, with the /scannow parameter, apparently failed the March update(s).

And BTW, the SFC...
