Re: Indentifying an old exploded cap.
That was my thinking as well.
I'd suggest staring at the PWA and drawing a schematic showing how the part was used (yes, I've done this in times past with flyback topology P/Ss, and it can be very...

Re: solid polymer electrolytic capacitor go boom?
Since in both polymer and liquid electrolyte capacitors the dielectric is aluminum oxide, not the polymer or liquid electrolyte, are the frequency characteristics for the two types substantially...

Re: solid polymer electrolytic capacitor go boom?
I recently saw a polymer cap that had been installed reverse polarity. But for being inside the P/S case it would have launched. The case limited the height the cap attained.

Re: iMac A1311 PSU repair questions
DMM diode checkers source around 2V, which is too low to turn on a MOSFET. Depending on the type, MOSFETs need ~3V (for logic level types) to ~5V, Gate-to-Source, to start to turn on, and even then...

Re: Delta DPS-150GB PSU failure
I doubt that the caps used in that P/S were as low impedance as KY or KZE. LXV, PS (= PR), LXZ, or PW would probably do well for both output caps and smaller value decoupling and start-up caps.

Re: Identifying capacitor type (Laserdisc PSU)
The brownish cap is between a heatsink and a power transformer, both sources of heat, and possibly impeding airflow or convection, and as redwire noted, there are two 1 watt resistors near the cap.

Re: Ohms Law question - kind of ...
IOW, the battery has an internal resistance which would drop some of the battery's voltage if connected to a .15 ohm load (ignoring the inductance and charge time of the inductance).

Re: TIP120 Question
Back in the late 70s and into the 80s, transistors were used rather than Darlingtons. At Boschert, we used 2N654# and MJE1300# transistors (TO-204 and TO-220, respectively) from Motorola. That was...

Re: TIP120 Question
In addition to limiting the realistic maximum switch frequency, during those turn-on and turn-off times, the device is in its linear reason, i.e. dissipating power. As those turn-on and turn-off...

Re: TIP120 Question
redwire is correct that I was confusing a C-B resistor with a Baker Clamp, which uses a diode to reduce storage time. Lo siento.
Basically, transistors' rise, fall, and storage time combine to...

Re: Power Man ip-p300bn7-2 blown
Putting together anecdotal comments I’ve seen around here, I wonder if a lot of the snap-in type caps, which were originally designed for 50/60 Hz usage, are not suitable for the high frequency...
