Re: Acer Aspire 5740g dead (no power - no lights)

Although old thread, can also say I had success reviving a 5740G too. Same KBC issue, but since I didn't have a programmer, I just flashed the KBC on a old 775 mobo's SPI BIOS chip (GB GA-945GZM-S2...

Re: Pegatron M2N78-LA (rev. 3.02) freezes on POST with SATA drives attached

Have enough faith.

I literally fixed a bad SiS southbridge on a Fujitsu Pentium 4 laptop by literally hitting the BGA with a hammer, but just enough that I didn't kill the board and have it still...

Bugged me for quite a lot of time, now I know why - Gigabyte H55M-S2V

As the title says, this little board has been bugging me for around a whole year.

First off, its original issue was two burnt MOSFETs due to a design flaw GB made. Here's the original link I found...

Re: Is my Laptops Hard Drive on it's Way Out? (4 Year Old Samsung ST1000LM024)

WD suffers from this also. I have three failed 2.5" WD drives with the same issue. One is a 320GB Black, the other two are both Blue, one 500GB and one 640GB.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored an DV7 from the 1000 series, that was of course in need of a reflow. It powers up and runs great now.

Specs:

Turion Ultra ZM-82 (originally had a RM-74)
4GB DDR2
WD Scorpio Black 320GB...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

FWIW I don't really mind if they wreck the casing as I still have a good HP EV06 battery shell from a long dead DV6 battery (the cells were rusty, not kidding) so swapping it in (assuming they don't...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored a DV5-1131en this monday. T3200, GF9200M GS (G98-700-U2 core) 256MB, no RAM, no charger, no HDD. The reason it's been free was the fact its original F.0C BIOS was semi-corrupted, but in such a...

Re: HP DV5-1131en boot issue - boot order is all 0000!

Great news, it's been fixed! I used the standard USB flash procedure (WinLogo+B for InsydeH2O), albeit a bit extreme - along with the battery, I also removed the HDD and the DVD-RW drive so it...

Just got this free DV5-1131en. Can see why.

It's a HP 15s-eq0068au, according to the 9WF24PA#UUF tag present inside the archived binary. (opened through WinRAR's View function)

Re: How To Stop CRT Flicker

I think it was a HPC-500-A12S? I remember I had to bench-test a P4 machine once while I was at his place and I definitely remember seeing a thee-digit display on the back of the PSU. The load wasn't...

Re: How To Stop CRT Flicker

Ironically that 1920x1200 is its native resolution, according to Windows (and I think Linux too, but not sure). The P models were usually good, and this seems to be no exception. I was looking at a...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Another score today... another 5520G. Jeez, the 8400M G variants seem to be everywhere! Very scarce on the 8600M front tho, a shame since the G84s are nice if cooled properly.

Anyways. I had to...

Re: How To Stop CRT Flicker

I still have a Phillips 107P4 that can do 1920x1200, though lately I've been hearing something rattling inside it, although it's never been opened.

I might check if it still works, as I'm probably...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Today's score is a Compaq CQ57-460EA. i3 380M, 4GB of RAM (originally had a single 4GB stick, I replaced it with 2x2GB so I might at least get dual-channel hopefully). Originally had a Seagate 320GB...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Finally got around and fixed the Sony Vaio FZ21M.

Notable "issues" found:
- thermal paste was as dry as Sahara
- whoever tried to reflow the GPU literally didn't heat it enough - it was...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Honestly I wouldn't trash a 7200.11 if the only issue is BSY. I'd just reset SMART using the already known guide, update the FW and be happy with it.

Also that adapter comes handy for...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Honestly it's not much work, I just cut up an FP_Audio header, wired RX, TX and GND, and isolated the twisted copper with electrical tape, and right now it's resetting a 2TB 7200.11 as I write this.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

More free scores:

-Sony Vaio FZ21M - needs reflow
-HP Pavilion DV2000 - reflowed, works great but needs some work aesthetically
-Acer 5315 - no power
-Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo V6505 - powers on...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Looking at that form factor, I think it's TFX as I might have a similar 250W unit (except it actually says FSP on it.) out of a NEC unit that had a burnt mobo.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

The last 98 machine I had found in the trash (a Soyo Sy-5TF, a P150 non MMX, and S3 GPU) had 16MB of RAM. No wonders they threw it away, though the board was a HX based one, so in theory it could go...
