Re: Chieftec APS-650C owners beware
The first time I saw that failure, I knew those APFC circuits are up to no good. Surely some last longer than others, especially the ones build with plenty of caps (or just big enough caps) to handle...

Re: Compaq PDP-121P - Baked MOV
Well, the biggest downgrade would be to not have any MOVs, obviously. :D And many cheaper PSUs, in fact, often lack MOVs.
That said, as long as you do have any MOV(s) in there, PSU primary caps...

Re: Asus B250 mining motherboard component issue
Yes, that indeed confirms the BIOS is OK... or at least to a point.
Now, since you do get other numbers before the 58 with the RAM installed and yet another different number without RAM, that...

Re: MS-6590 KT4 Ultra - short on vcore
I know you mentioned in post #10 that you did have a heatsink on the CPU, but did you actually use a socket 462 heatsink? And did you clamp it down?
Reason I ask is because if you used a regular...

Re: Repurposing a 2004 Athlon 64 system in 2021
Nice PSUs indeed, but not impervious to bad caps. The old ones generally tend to do a little better and not suffer from bad caps as much, IME. However, the moment you get one bad Teapo, that...

:why:
If you have the time and don't feel like doing anything else... maybe not.
I have a ton of little projects like that piling up already. Luckily, most don't take much space. Keeps me from...

Re: Asrock 775Dual-VSTA needs capacitors
Oh, nice, I didn't know you had a YT channel. Cool video! :)
Well, it looks like your 8800 GT cards are using SMD caps, so that's probably another turn-off right there... not that you couldn't...

Re: cooler master rs-750 load problem
Ok, good to know. So it likely is the PSU, then.
Based on the pictures you provided, I see a lot of CapXon capacitors. Generally, CapXon does show signs when it goes bad (bulging, leaking, and...

Re: Installing a Cap in circuit, help
Hmmm... 2 Ohms resistance to ground across that cap is suspicious. You may have shorted that rail to ground when the holes were damaged. I suggest to test the video card in a motherboard that isn't...

Re: GTX 780tI Repair attempt...
Exactly!
"Blind" reflowing (without checking what the problem may be) is not the optimal troubleshooting to be done. If the card was obtained as non-working 2nd hand, first always check for missing...

Re: Installing a Cap in circuit, help
The vias / holes for that cap look completely destroyed. Don't bother scraping off any more solder mask or going deeper into other layers - you could short something out.
Most likely, the easiest...

Re: GTX980 - GPU die KO?
No, but knowing how problematic the GTX980 cards are (well, all large-die, high-power GPUs are these days), I don't suggest spending too much effort on it. Good chance the GPU is probably toast too,...

The two 8800 GT cards Dicky96 has from this thread (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1033706#post1033706) should make nice donors if he has no plans for them. I think most...

Re: 80v charger blown caps .
Well, if that charger was indeed dropped a few times, those ceramic caps could have gotten cracked then and were just waiting for "the right moment" to short out and throw the sparks show.
I fixed...

Can you post some pictures here of the internals of the power supply? That way we can see what you have.
Also, did you try your PC with another PSU and confirm the system can stay turned On under...

Re: OSD pops up, LG Flatron W2361vjkj
Why would you assume that?
Chips like these almost never go bad, unless some external source massively damages them with a voltage spike... and in most cases, that's fatal to these chips and monitor...
