Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Custom build AMD Athlon XP 2000+ system with a Thermaltake CPU cooler that sounds like a lawnmower. Hard disk was pulled by original owner. POSTs but probably needs a PSU as the one it has makes some...

Re: Wasting life trying to reset/erase Hynix SC210 to factory default

Use hdparm to send the drive an ATA_SECURE_ERASE command. This not only wipes the drive, destroying all data on it, but also clears the password on the drive.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

APC SMT1000 with AP9620 Legacy Communications Card for free, works; needs an RBC6 pack, which I found on Amazon for $90.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

8MB of cache compared to 2MB. Everything was in MINT condition, like it had been sitting in an office storeroom since 2002.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Western Digital 80GB Special Edition EIDE hard disk from 2002, still brand new in the factory shrink-wrap. $78 shipped. Drive works just fine and I'm cloning an 80GB Maxtor drive to it as I speak.

Re: Cooling experts wanted.... (with pictures)

I'd go with a hybrid approach. Go with #2, but also do the case fan upgrades.

Re: The (now the death of) Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

Re: Why does my truck have a microphone in it?

Not sure. You may have mistraced it. Try pairing a phone to the head unit and placing a call on it.

Re: Why does my truck have a microphone in it?

Is there an aftermarket head unit installed? That looks an awful lot like the hands-free phone mic that I got as part of a Kenwood head unit a few months ago.

Re: Topcat's Other Misc Weird Build Thread

The case on my mom's Gateway wasn't anything like that one. It was an older design. I can't remember if it had a sound card added (it's been ~10 years since that system got recycled). Cost? IIRC, it...

Re: Topcat's Other Misc Weird Build Thread

Something else that I'd figure that I'd mention:

Back around 2002, my mom bought a fully loaded Gateway computer (Pentium 4 HT, AGP ATi GPU of some sorts, 80GB or 160GB WD Caviar Black IDE HDD...

Re: Dell Latitude e6510 Boots Once in UEFI

Likely just corruption, read: bit rot.
I had problems with my E6520 refusing to reboot properly. I upgraded the BIOS and the problems went away.

You'll need to use FreeDOS in clean boot mode...

Re: 1000gb Seagate hdd help

Check Disk Management and you'll probably see it.
More than likely, it's an Ext2/3/4 filesystem that Windows doesn't recognize. Install Ext2Fsd and use that to mount the filesystem on the drive.

Re: [Stupid Question #2] Why we are still using 12v on the ATX power source?

Unless there's ring current, then it's basically trickle-charge levels of current available.

Re: Topcat's Other Misc Weird Build Thread
