Re: What causes these ribbon cables to burn up?

It is very likley the panel (circuit board attached to the panel) that has a short, sometimes it is a shorted chip cap, but could also be due to cleaning liquid running down the front of the panel...

Re: Vizio D50u-D1 No Power Dead

Check the voltage "across" one of the main filter caps in the primary (C9803,04 or 05) If you have +160vdc, unplug the tv and check the resistance of R9101, If it is open, Q9101 is likely shorted.

Re: Jvc pc-x100

You need a scope to see if you are reading the disc, The laser being turned on does not mean the pickup is reading any information.

Re: Samsung smart tv bad power board BN44-0503A

This why we disconnect the main board, the power supply should turn ON with the main board disconnected, this will eliminate the main board as the cause of the problem.
with the main board...

If the plug checks ok, check that TVS2 & TVS3 are not shorting the data lines to ground.

Re: Samsung smart tv bad power board BN44-0503A

You used the correct hot ground but you are checking the wrong transistor, Check QS801 NOT QP801

Re: Samsung smart tv bad power board BN44-0503A

What are you using for ground when making these measurements ? 163v on QS801 is impossible. If this is the case ICP801S would be completely blown off the board! because the ic can only handle about...

Re: Samsung smart tv bad power board BN44-0503A

163v across the main cap indicates the board is either not turned ON or the pfc circuit is not working. Is the main board connected? if it is, disconnecting it should force the power supply ON.

Re: B1186A Digital Transistor?

I agree, it is a Rohm 2SB1186A, Usually paired with a (NPN) 2SD1763A
Most of the "digital transistors" I have seen are small case low power, not to220

Re: SSD repair

Did you check if there was a firmware update? Although unlikely, I know some of their ssd's had a problem at 40,000 hrs (40,000 hr bug)
I believe your model is a SDSA5DK-064G (you were missing the 4)

Re: Samsung smart tv bad power board BN44-0503A

If you have "nothing"(no voltage) on the main filter, your main fuse is likely open. But this can not be the case if you have A5V standby voltage.
Recheck the voltage across the main filter cap...

Re: ECH81/6AJ8 Vacuum Tube Question

The B+ seems to be fine, I would have been concerned if it was around 250 volts.

Re: ECH81/6AJ8 Vacuum Tube Question

The 6X4 tube has a voltage drop of 22 volts per plate at 70ma per plate. Measure the voltage across the main filter to make sure the voltage is not too high for the cap and also the other tubes.

Re: Revox A77 MKIV, No play speeds

Re: Revox A77 MKIV, No play speeds

The regulator circuit controls the negative side and not the positive side like a "normal" circuit would. R107's reading could be effected by a charged C101. make sure it's not open.
The -6v voltage...

Re: Samsung PN51F8500AFXZA, PSU BN44-00619A, Short QP802S, ICP801S testing/sourcing

Re: Samsung PN51F8500AFXZA, PSU BN44-00619A, Short QP802S, ICP801S testing/sourcing

I can't see how the voltage would drop from 160vdc to 116vdc. What make/model meter are you using to check this voltage? Try using a different meter if you can.

Re: Revox A77 MKIV, No play speeds

It looks like Q102 is not being turned on to lower the voltage to -6v. Check the resistors in that area, like R107 across Q102, R103, & zener ZP12. I would also work the pot P106 back & forth in case...

Re: Samsung PN51F8500AFXZA, PSU BN44-00619A, Short QP802S, ICP801S testing/sourcing

Check the AC voltage right at the bridge recitier to see if it is 118v
The only thing I can think of is that the high frequency of the pfc circuit is causing your meter to read a wrong value.
There...

Re: Samsung PN51F8500AFXZA, PSU BN44-00619A, Short QP802S, ICP801S testing/sourcing

When you measure the voltage across + & - of the bridge rectifier, it should read 160vdc, When you measure across the main caps, you will get 160vdc in Standby, but you will get +397vdc when the...

Re: Revox A77 MKIV, No play speeds

There is a fuse, F102, (630ma) for the +21v, it is on the tape drive control board. The Capstan speed control circuit is supplied by +21v. So you are likely on the right track.
