Re: Free TV- Repair Help Appreciated

X2 No heat, not necessary. And too much risk of damage.

Re: Sony XBR49X900E no picture

Have you tried disconnecting the ribbons between the tcon and the panel one at a time (with the TV off of course) and then turning it on? Can't remember if this model will display half a picture at...

Re: Toshiba 49L621U - Backlight protection shutdown

Hey, nice catch. I have one of these sets to look at soon. I'll try that and see if that's a quicker way to identify which strip is bad.

Re: Toshiba 49L621U - Backlight protection shutdown

I have found a LED tester to be less than helpful with these models. I have repaired many of the 43 & 49" versions with the symptoms above. (All strips light up with a tester and flash once when...

Re: Toshiba 49L621U - Backlight protection shutdown

I do it all the time, but I'm not sure what that test would confirm as you already know the issue is not with the Tconn or screen.

Once you've replaced the LEDS I would do that to make sure...

Re: Toshiba 49L621U - Backlight protection shutdown

In my experience, on this model the Led strips will test good with a tester but fail when powered up with the full current of the power supply. I believe you'll need to replace the backlights. Best...

Re: Vizio TV firmware reverse engineering

I'm interested if you have success with this, I run into M65-c1 failure all the time... wonder if a similar thing can be done with other Vizio mains. So many BGA failures with the C1 series mains...

Re: Toshiba 49L621U

I've experienced this model to have a common problem with backlight failure. LEDS come on for between 5 seconds and 5 minutes then BL shuts off but image remains on screen. LED strips test OK with...

Re: Is this an LED problem or panel problem?

X2!

Also, I could see a vertical strip on a 65 inch have 8 LEDS... they tend to spread them out on those cheaper tv's!

Re: Is this an LED problem or panel problem?

Toshiba LED strips in the 49L621U and 43L621U and 43L420 run vertically. But those are only smaller screens, once TVs get to 65" they do tend to run horizontally. If you get the model number, see...

Re: Is this an LED problem or panel problem?

budwich makes a good point, but wouldn't the TV to shut off if an LED failed like that? I'd also expect the soot to go straight up.

Doing the tcon "disconnect one side then the other side" trick...

Re: Is this an LED problem or panel problem?

I vote panel failure, it's too isolated and too dark to be LED issue.

Re: Insignia NS-43DR620NA18 standby light blinking

I'd look into the condition of the LEDS. They are a common failure on this model.

Re: Sony XBR65x930D - left half screen is grainy

"Right edge boards have ribbon between them, when ribbon connected, voltages go awry. When only the right edge board closest to TCON is connected voltages are more normal."

Sounds like your...

Re: One blinking SMD

That is enough to send the TV in to backlight error mode. That strip needs to be replaced.

Re: Kdl-70w830b sim in middle of picture after backlight repair

Re: Kdl-70w830b sim in middle of picture after backlight repair

Even in edge lit TVs, there are still usually multiple sheets... any chance you mixed up the order?

Re: LG 65UH5500-UA Backlight flash on first power up only

That red note is interesting. $98 USD plus shipping and tax and the significant amount of labour to replace all the strips with upgraded ones means that lowering the current and replacing one or two...

Re: LG TV sound no picture, boards replaced

From what I see in the first picture posted, it looks like soot from burned LEDS (actual fire soot) has come up the back of the TV and stained everything.
