Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

The voltage regulator also seems to be slightly warm, but not hot. I can't check the schematics properly, because the schematics I have seem to have a dedicated regulator IC for 3V and 5V separately....

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

Another point that's worth mentioning is, that if the battery is plugged in, the system powers on automatically when the DC/adapter is plugged in. This does not happen if the battery is disconnected.

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

I honestly can't tell cause the board is not too big and my hand was all over the place, I was just holding the board in place in the chassis.

I can give it another shot, but it's quite random....

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

Just bumping the thread before getting a new board.

I am also wondering if it could be a corrupted BIOS?

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

So just received the replacements. The measurement between the S and D out of circuit is the same. The measurement of the new mosfet is also the same out of circuit, so I am not sure if it has...

Re: Troubleshooting Uni-T EEPROM ErrE

Reflowed the resistors, still the same. While it seems to be interesting, I don't think it's worth working on it anymore. The only thing I miss about this is that it has auto range, and the other...

Re: Troubleshooting Uni-T EEPROM ErrE

Doesn't seem to be the case, must be the quality of the previous photo :)

I'm still to re-flow the resistors around the EEPROM area.

Re: Troubleshooting Uni-T EEPROM ErrE

Thanks for checking!

All resistors seem to be soldered fine, but I'll re-flow them just in case. I also measured them and the readings are good.

About the solder balls, do you mean in between...

Re: Troubleshooting Uni-T EEPROM ErrE

Will try :) Is that done with the EEPROM back in circuit?

This is the backup (the one I had before I wrote the shared one).

Re: Troubleshooting Uni-T EEPROM ErrE

I know it's been a while, but I just got to do this now. Wrote the shared bin to the IC, re-soldered it back, and still getting the same error :/

I also de-soldered the IC and read it again just...

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

The power button on this laptop is not on the keyboard, but a dedicated board. It has the power button, power and charging LEDs, a card reader, and two other buttons. It's connected to the mainboard...

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

Something odd happens when the battery is connected now. The system turns on with high fan spin, but no display still. The battery is also not charging. PU4402 drain starts at 12V and drops to 0.83....

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

Unfortunately I can't find any P-Channel mosfet with that package on any of the boards I have. So that means I'd need to order a replacement.

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

In this case I'll try to find something similar on some other boards I have around.

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

Checked EC8910 for 19V_DCBATOUT and it's 19.49V

REGN on the charger IC is 6V.

This is after it shut down.

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

Referred to datasheet of that IC, and REGN is 6V.

EDIT: Downloaded a similar schematic from this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1083332

Re: Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

I checked them in beep mode, and disregarded the reading. Maybe that's why I thought they're short. Resistance is 3.2 on lowest scale.

At this stage everything is disconnected from the mainboard,...

Acer Spin 5 - Turns on and off after a few seconds

I have an Acer Aspire Spin 5 that turns on, displays the Acer logo, and turns back off. This happens in approximately 5 seconds. It won't turn on by itself after that, it stays off.

The mainboard...

Re: Fluxes in Europe

Thanks. I came across TME before, and it's good. It's however not worth shipping a buy a single tube from them... makes sense to order a couple of items then the shipping cost can be justified :)...
