Re: Post your system.......

That's a shame they threw it out. Soyo boards, from what I heard, were pretty good (sans the caps.)

It IS BS.
Most of those "public funds" come from taxes, which come from you know who....

Arrow Dell OptiPlex 170L – Still My “Main” PC

Well, folks, this “suggestion” (seen here (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=700653&postcount=654)) by me turned out to be true – at least for myself. Here we are in 2020 (with almost a...

Re: OMFG, I have real internet!!

I don't get to say this often... and it's probably a case of the pot calling the kettle black, but....... WELCOME to the modern age. :)
(Internet-wise anyways ;) )

Man, I now feel bad about...

Re: Suitable Replacement Caps for Video Card

No need to apologize.

We (well some of us... OK, me, at least :D ) fix old video cards like that quite frequently, and I wouldn't say it's a moot point or not worth the effort. Even this old...

Re: Late 1970s Sprauge Capacitor Markings

Well, I'm no expert in old gear like that either. However, I did acquire an old HP adjustable lab PSU a while back from the same or similar era (either 60's or 70's) and have gone through the service...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Welp, I got the 24 GB of RAM for the T7500: all for ~$20 shipped (less than $1/GB, so pretty decent deal, IMO.) Will get the CPUs later. Want (curious) to see how the current ones do in modern...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Well, I probably won't find a M6000 for an affordable price anytime soon... unlike some other people here. ;) :D
But in all honesty, that's just fine by me, as I'd rather get a "consumer" / "gamer"...

Re: Overclockable Dell computers.

Yup, can confirm this now.
Got a T7500 workstation with dual E5605 CPUs and was hoping I could OC them, as they seem they can go up quite abit... but NO. Throttlestop simply could not do anything to...

Cool Dell Precision T7500 WS

So... I've always been curious to try one of them off-lease government/research center workstations - particularly the Dell Precision ones, like T3400, T3500, and etc.

Early last week, I found a...

Re: How to Recondition (Reform) Electrolytic Capacitors and Why

Unfortunately, no.
I'm not very knowledgeable on old gear and caps, but from what I've read, old paper caps like that have a finite shelf/useful life, as do all "wet" electrolytic caps. Given their...

Re: Older Macintosh Magnetek power supply ressurection

As per my previous post, perhaps try replacing the supervisor chip on the secondary side too. When that 5VSB circuit went kaboom, it could have taken it out. Also, double-check all power circuitry...

Re: SoundBlaster Pro 2.0 recapping

Hi Dusko,

Glad you came back to report your work.

What kind of noise are we talking about here? Static? Hissing? "Digital" "CPU thinking" noises?

I know that on certain motherboards, it's...

Re: Post your system.......

Yup.
Heck, even the Core 2 Quads are still pretty respectable in terms of performance if you're not into gaming (at least not the latest titles in the last 3-4 years, that is.)

Indeed.
If...

Would love to - you know I enjoy cleaning and restoring old reliable PCs. :)
But these I can't really touch, as we do contract work for that company, and I'm not exactly their IT guy... though once...

Re: DFI Lanparty NF4 939 Problem

You can try reflowing the socket. Just make sure you don't gunk it up with too much flux. Otherwise, that will make the contacts in it even worse.

As for replacement 939 sockets... eBay doesn't...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

My latest score... Radeon HD4670 PCI-E for $5 to my door. I really like these older mid-range low-power PCI-E video cards from AMD. They have enough power for some older games and don't need any...

Re: Anyone build their own equipment? Plans for small benchtop power supply.

I like it! :)

As for making the case smooth - I've seen people make their own "hot acetone baths" particularly for making 3D-printed ABS plastic projects shiny / with a mirror finish.)

Me - I'm...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Sounds about right. I acquired this PSU in mid-2017. I believe the PSU was used in the PC it was in until then. So 9 years of life, more or less - not bad! :)
But now it should do even more with the...

Re: Asus P5S800-VM no POST

R.I.P. ASUS P5S800-VM :violin:

Ah well... I'm sure over time those scavenged parts will help many "ill" boards work fine again. I did the same with a few older nVidia video cards (GeForce 7000...

Re: Alternative Browsers for older machines

In some ways, yes.
I just find it interesting (and to certain extent, even a little amazed) that old stuff like that can still be used today. Sure, you get very slow performance... but it still...

Re: PSU Cooler Master RS-500-PCAR-N1 , PG = 0ms

Looks like PG signal is handled completely by the GR8323N controller IC.

According to its datasheet, pin 1 (PGI) should be connected to two resistors and one cap (looking at your PSU pics, there...

Re: Overclockable Dell computers.

Hmm.. I wonder if this ThrottleStop will work with the bigger Dell Precision workstation PCs, like T3500.

Reason I wonder is because I just bought a T7500 for cheap with 2x (I think... we will...

Re: resistance burned adp 240 ar power supply ps4

No.

Those low resistance resistors have a very important purpose - they allow the controller to determine how much current is going through the primary side. They are also usually fusible, meaning...
