Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

SOB! Reminds me of my Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB that I got in August, 2020, IIRC. Ironically, it never got used even once, until the RX 5600 XT became a fancy paper weight!

It works fine, but the...

Re: Post your system.......

Ubuntu Jammy was installed on August 3, 2022. Looking good the last time I checked again yesterday. (4 days later)

Re: Klipsch computer subwoofer speakers hissing buzzing. Does this look like bad cap?

Looks like a minor bulge, to me! A noob will think it's OK!

Re: ZUMAX Technology (Leadman Power) ZU400W (X1), Modifications & Life Test

Zumax=The only variant I remember seeing with that brand, is feloniously bad! :barf:

Possibly much worse than Apevia!

Re: Topcat's Other Misc Weird Build Thread

Reminded me of 2004, where I was still happy with 256 MB of DDR1 SDRAM, but the guy I was with, told me that it was out of stock, so I was able to get 512 MB of PC2700 DDR1 SDRAM, LOL. (most likely...

Re: Topcat's Other Misc Weird Build Thread

I remember coming across a Pentium 166 for the group home PC at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center. It sure was one of the late-1990s' greatest hits!

And, of course the same for when I saw a...

Re: Razer blade crashes while updating bios and does not turn on

Did you see a BSOD error? A software problem with the flasher or the BIOS chip is faulty.

Re: P4C800 Deluxe broken cap

450 MHz FSB=Reminds me of my Wolfy (45nm Core 2 Duo) E8400 C0 (an early one with the minimum temp getting stuck at 45C or similar, IIRC) test that I did in 2013.

(Actually, that's on socket 775,...

Re: P4C800 Deluxe broken cap

anti-aliasing=The would be the GPU.

16x anisotropic is known to give excellent results without a notable drop in FPS with pretty much any video card since 2002!

Re: Post your system.......

9th gen and earlier has a critical CSME vulnerability that requires a UEFI-BIOS update. (remote-code-execution) I had to get rid of my 9th-gen, because there was no UEFI-BIOS update with the new CSME...

Re: P4C800 Deluxe broken cap

Chemi-con KZG-series caps are known for lasting for a fair while, then suddenly failing! Especially for 2004 and 2005 KZGs, you'll be lucky to get 10 years before they suddenly bulge and leak!

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Same with i815. Also the same with Voodoo 3, at least for Direct3D.

Re: Topcat's Ultimate Pentium 4 Retro Gamer!

I can imagine people doing this now with the VRAM on modern video cards.

Re: PSU weaken - occasional reset

That PSU looks much better than expected for Raidmax!

Albeit it's likely overrated in watts, wouldn't be surprised if the components are intended for 500W to maybe 750W.

Those caps, however, is...

Re: GTX 1660 BIOS Beep Error

One long and three short bleeps=it means video init failure. I'm afraid it's dead.

However, back in 2004, when I had my Asus A7V8X-X and tried a Radeon 9600 SE, before returning it, which the...

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?

Don't know, sorry. Especially that you installed a GTX 970, a much more sane card.

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?

In that case, then you need CSM, which is enabled by default, IIRC.

Because there's no way a video card that old, has GOP. (graphics output protocol, a standard for UEFI)

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?

I never witnessed this wacky-ness with a UEFI-BIOS, but this will happen with legacy AMI BIOSes on Asus motherboards when a UEFI-era video card is installed, such as installing a Radeon RX 580 on an...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I wouldn't be surprised if the OEM PSUs are normally better PSUs at the time that PC was made. Looks like another case of an OEM PSU being replaced with a super cheapo PSU. Like a PC that I saw, with...

Re: socket 775 forever... no, no, no...

Yep, just like good ol' XP x64 Edition, which will also run well with 4 GB of RAM.

Because NT 5, unlike NT 6/10, will not take 512 MB to 2 GB of RAM just for itself when idle at the desktop,...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

The only thing bad about a 9th-gen, is if you can't flash the UEFI-BIOS to fix a critical remote-code-execution CSME exploit. It has the highest severity rating of all recent ones! With some laptops,...
