Re: Reflow equipment
I can reach 480 degrees with my station (I think?) but I'm trying to keep the temps as low as possible to avoid damaging the components - considering I have a pre-heating plate.
Using larger...

Re: Reflow equipment
Indeed I’m experimenting with scrap boards and trying to folllow a profile I’ve set on an app which is monitoring the thermocouples- even though I found that an IT thermometer is more reliable. As...

Re: Reflow equipment
what about larger BGA's? Shall I use the larger nozzle - which is basically the same diameter of the wand - and increase the flow?

Re: Reflow equipment
ah, interesting as hot air used as top element.
Those seem to be within my budget - I see the Quick 861DE has 200L airflow which is probably more suitable for the larger nozzle, what do you think?...

Reflow equipment
Hello all,
I am experimenting a bit with reflowing larger components - ideally I'd like to reflow a PS4 APU or a GPU for example.
I know it's impossible to reflow such large components with...

Re: good quality DIP sockets
Thanks
Yes I did a little research and I didn’t know those sockets still have a spring mechanism inside so it won’t matter whether the IC has round or flat pins.
I guess I’ll start using them....

Re: good quality DIP sockets
Thanks appreciated.
I’ve always felt a bit cautious about turned pin sockets as aren’t they designed to accept round pins? I don’t doubt they may work but logically a flat pin doesn’t work very...

good quality DIP sockets
Hi there,
Can anybody recommend a source of good quality DIP sockets please? I'm getting mine from Ebay and they feel very flimsy. If I plug a previously desoldered chip, the sockets get...

Re: Onkyo HT-R390
Some extra notes
1. If I push the "mute" button on the remote, the clicking stops.
2. I have identified a few components on the main board which - when cooled down - will stop the clicking. Some...

Onkyo HT-R390
Hi everyone
I've acquired a faulty Onkyo HT-R390 receiver - it's very low spec with "monolitic" amplifier ICs. It's mostly an exercise for me.
It would not power up (It would shut down...

Re: Onkyo 577 repair
After some troubleshooting, here are my findings.
I measure 40V (or whereabouts, I've noticed the supply voltage changes over time?) which is the supply voltage at both the BASE and EMITTER of...

Re: Onkyo 577 repair
Yes, bot VPROTECT and IPROTECT read 1.4VDC.
I have checked Q6073, R6143, R6153, D6003, R6173, R6183 and R6193 (and relevant ones on all other channels) and I cannot see anomalies.
I've compared...

Thanks again!
My multimeter reads only 1.42V on VPROTECT and IPROTECT between those points when I attempt to power up before the unit shuts down.
To confirm I am on the correct GND, I have...

Thanks again for your time on this.
I have checked all ID+/ID- and they all read around 2mV DC (when unit is cold). That includes the repaired channel.
I did not get any voltage on...

I admit I made that mistake at some point - mistaking a similar behaviour for an issue but it was just the current limiter dropping the voltage too much.
However, I have a "bypass"...

Re: AMD R9 270x - Gigabyte Windforce
Ok, I tried the R9 on a different motherboard, an Asus P5t with a Core2 Quad on it. It wouldn't work at all. Fans glitch as mentioned before and no video ever.
The same R9 on a similar Asus (P6T)...
