Re: socket 775 forever... no, no, no...

FBDIMMS open a memory channel for each module. This gives huge bandwidth possibilities. But each module has it's own memory controller, and this adds huge latency, power and heat issues. Intels...

Re: socket 775 forever... no, no, no...

As far as 2 slot G41 MB goes I've found it's usually cheaper to get a DDR3 version that supports 2x4GB DDR3 Modules. 4GB DDR2 modules do exist. But non FBDIMM, and 512x64
configuration are hard to...

Re: Heatsink cement?

I started looking around at Digi Key lots of choices there. Newegg was a waste of time.

Re: Heatsink cement?

JBW sounds interesting. But I harvest my expensive Enzotech copper heatsinks from my old projects. I think the JBW would win that arguement.

Heatsink cement?

I had been using Arctic Silver 2 part heatsink cement. But 1 part set up in the tube and I can't seem to find it anymore. What do you guys recommend for this. Dell doesn't put heatsinks on their VRM...

Dell XPS420 @4.32GHz

I finally quit screwing around with Optiplexes and lit the fuse on an XPS420. QX9650, 12GB DDR2 800, GTX1660TI, 2x 120GB SSD in RAID0.
150x50mm Delta 2cpu workstation fan, and XPS720 BTX heatpipe...

Re: Anybody here still uses Win 7?

I read the EULA on WIN10. They own your data.
I just fired up an old Dell desktop. I t had 2 hdd in it. Win7 64 Pro, and Win10. It seems Win 10 hides everything a couple layers down. It also assumes...

Re: Universal LGA775 VID mod question.

First try out it didn't work so well. No smoke this time. But no computer either.
I'll have to get a 2nd rig going. My daily computer is a good candidate for this once I get the bugs out. But not...

Re: Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

I may be responsible for the T3400- T3500 confusion. I own a couple T3500 (as shown) But I'm actually working my way up to a T3400/XPS420 project when I get through maxxing out my Optiplex 380....

Re: Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

I got some ffedback on this from a user at OCN. He says it's not good for real time apps like gaming.AMD guys at Steam say it's OK...........

Re: Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

I don't bother with 1156. I go for the LGA1366 with 3 channel RAM. The Nehalem based Xeons were called Bloomfield. Whole Dell T3500 are typically $80. I've actually picked them up for as little as...

Re: Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

Everyone forgets the unlocked Nehalem Xeons that are cheaper than the QX9650. Or even the X5470.
W3580 can be found for about $30. Adds HT support and DDR3 1333 x3.(DDR3 x6= 1066)
Maybe prices have...

Re: Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

Dells require X64 low density modules. The cheaper X128 versions ran on AMD CPUs. 4GB low density is rare and expensive because Intel went with FBDIMMS for servers in the 4GB size. Some of the...

Re: Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

My move up from the Opti 380 will probably be a QX9650 Dell XPS420 with 16GB DDR2 and a brand new GTX1660TI OC card.. I've had it to 4.33GHz already. But a 400fsb tapemod to base clock of 3.6GHz, and...

Re: Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

Here's my T3500 with W3690 and Trifire HD6990/6970 setup.
I can get the lid on it with a macho 120 fits with holes drilled for the heatpipes to stick out. fan is a Delta AFC 1512DG 150x50mm...

Re: Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

I have better stuff than C2D. I just find that I don't really need it.
I just want to make a $20 Dell Optiplex C2D office computer go faster than 4GHz.
I have some Dell T3500 workstations and...

Re: Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

Many of the Wolfdales only have SSSE3, and those are the ones with multipliers from 13-16. The unlocked Pentium E6500K is one of them.
An E5800 at 16x266=4.332Ghz. That's where I would like to be...

Intel SDE AVX and SSE4.2 patch

I found this looking around at which LGA775 have SSE4 and which ones don't.
It seems Intel has a patch to add these to any x64 CPU including AMD. It even spoofs the CPUID to show the change. Intel...

Re: Universal LGA775 VID mod question.

As far as power for the CPU goes some of the Dell boards are surprisingly good.
The T3400 workstation/ XPS 420 can run the 130W QX9650 beyond 4Ghz. How far???? 400fsb also.
My Optiplex 380 which...

Re: Universal LGA775 VID mod question.

The microcode will be the same. Gigabyte does use a lookup table that defeats pinmods. But Dells have been overclocked this way for years. It's just that the extra Voltage wasn't there for the more...

Re: Universal LGA775 VID mod question.

When I own a Dell I always want to find a way to get a respectable overclock. The Optiplexes with their 95W CPU limit have thwarted me so far. Best effort has been an X5470 Xeon swap in an Optiplex...

Re: Universal LGA775 VID mod question.

This image was shared on some other forums. I thought you "guys" might like it too
It's a lot easier than working from the socket diagram which must then be reversed for the CPU mods.....
