Re: Post your system.......

I'm surprised by how low the prices are on gaming laptops now. That one actually looks nice. I get about the same battery life on my current laptop with a 90Whr battery.

I don't think I posted my...

Re: 2DIN Android Radio YD7388 amp short in one output

There are also caps on the input of the amp to block DC, so maybe the cap on the affected channel failed. A lot of audio ICs normally have DC on their signal pins due to their circuit design.

Re: DIY amp for speakers

Figures 13 and 14 in that datasheet show the maximum output power over the supply voltage range. I would guess that you'll get about 10W per channel into 6 ohms.

Power consumption will vary with...

Re: MGX7520 onboard graphics problem

I don't think 25 ohms would show up in temperature measurements.

Can you see what that cap connects to? The CPU takes 2.9V and 3.3V, and I would guess that the Cx5520 runs off the same 3.3V...

Re: For laptop/PC repair what V and A rating should my probes be?

I've used those TL910 probes. They're thinner than standard probes and extremely sharp, but the wire resistance is higher than normal. I wouldn't want to measure current with them, but they're good...

Re: TPM 2.0 is not always standard issue

Enabling Intel Platform Trust Technology will run some kind of software emulation of the TPM for the few people who actually want Windows 11. I would expect it to be enabled by default on a current...

Re: new apple studio display uses capxon caps

Apple already has the cult who thinks it's cool to constantly buy new stuff (and create e-waste as a consequence), so there isn't any need to force products to fail. It's just a company being cheap...

Re: new apple studio display uses capxon caps

CapXon is unavoidable. I can only hope that their quality has improved, but I doubt it.

On top of that, the design of this monitor is insane. What are they doing with a full iPhone SoC and such a...

Re: The (now the death of) Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

Or me :goofy:

When I made enclosures for computer speakers many years ago, I ended up giving them a light coat of spray polyurethane, but I used pretty low-grade plywood and left the edges rough.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

That HP/Compaq 7550 isn't a Trinitron. I saw a lot of those at the schools I went to. I remember some of them having a really screwed up picture when they were new (like shaking horizontally), but...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

That's one of those Hong Hua fake-FDB fans. They were popular for a while, but they're just cheap crap.

Re: Best video card for 2D?

Video card prices went nuts over the last couple of years (for reasons that might be best discussed in the VIP forum), so I don't think you'll find anything under $100. Right now, I see people buying...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

That is a Newton Power, and from the board size and shape, I'm guessing that it was one of Gateway's proprietary power supplies (standard ATX connectors, but an unusual small form factor that was...

Re: Post your worthless and/or pointless repairs

I get a little bass from it, but I think there's a dip in the response just above the port tuning frequency. I think there's still a little peak around 1kHz with the current component values (47F...

Re: RXD26L Kenwood hi-fi schematic / advice please

The red caps look like the Elna "long-life" caps that were used in some power supplies in the early 1990s. They were known to leak.

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

I haven't seen those 5.25" bay power supplies in at least 15 years. They were made for people who didn't want to upgrade their power supply for some reason when they got a new high-end graphics card.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I haven't seen that before. I guess it really isn't worth finding such a low-capacity flash chip or there is some application that requires the lower capacity (I've heard of that).

Re: Mac users, you're being paged! G5 PPC question

From what I've heard, only the 2.5GHz and higher models were liquid-cooled.

I've also heard that the liquid cooler used Dex-Cool. :goofy:

Re: Post your worthless and/or pointless repairs

I made my speakers more pointless with a notch filter to get rid of the big hump in the midrange response (http://www.loudspeakerdatabase.com/Peerless/TC6FC02-04) (I have to use a third-party website...

Re: The 2022 Operating System Thread

I installed Windows 11 in a VM, but I didn't go beyond deleting the social media...

Re: KSGER STM32 T12 soldering stations

I don't do much soldering anymore, and even when I did solder more, I got a decent amount of life out of that $15 iron. Because of the lack of use, that Weller is about as much as I want to spend....

Re: KSGER STM32 T12 soldering stations

Has anyone here tried the "STC" controller (the one with an 8051 clone instead of an STM32)? I keep seeing those, and they tend to be the version with an external power supply. I'm looking at these...
