TEAC FD-55GFR 5.25'' floppy drive tests

Well, it only too me 2 years to get to this. :D

However, I’m excited to say, the TEAC FD-55GFR actually works! :rejoice:

I built a test Windows 98SE system to try some old software, and that’s...

Windows 98SE on no-name AMD SiS730 s462 motherboard

A few weeks back, I put together a Windows 98SE system as a test, since I’ve never done a Win 9x install before. (Almost too embarrassing to admit  but Windows XP and 2k were too...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

6 Million Triangles/sec
286 Megatexels/sec
WOW!

Really cool cards, though.
Despite not having been powered in 20-odd years, I see no electrolytic caps on the VooDoo, so no surprise it...

Re: XFX GeForce 6800 XT AGP [PV-T42K-UDE3] – recapping and mods

LOL, thanks! :D

Attached at bottom of post.

Oh yeah, I think I recall you telling me this before.
Well, that's a bummer... and maybe also a good thing, as this means I won't have much else...

Re: Panasonic FC series - leaking? quality gone?

I mis-reported. They are 6.3 mm dia. indeed.
Have 5 more in my stock, but they haven't gotten worse.

Re: Task TK-940TX-DF Blowing fuse

Which two transistors? I thought all the ones on the primary side are gone.

That's a very strange result.

It looks almost as if there is some active device somewhere pulling the voltage down...

Re: HSU Research VTF-2 MK1 subwoofer amplifier repair

Sounds good. Keep us posted how it goes.
Given how close those small caps are by the regulators, I wouldn't be surprised if they are dry already (and part of the problem.)

Instead of moving the...

Re: Overclockable Dell computers.

Yeah, I looked into that, but the few places that reported anything didn't have any spectacular OC results, so I decided not to mess with it.

That's a very fast chip. But it's also quite toasty...

Re: PC Randomly Sleeps And Cant Be Woken

I'm putting my money down on a config issue with Windows 10.

Make yourself a bootable live Linux DVD or flash drive (pick a distro that seems easy to use), then try it. If PC doesn't go to sleep...

Re: Black plastic goo question.

Can we get a picture of said devices.

I too have only seen electronics with rubberized coating "leak" / smudge like this.

Most plastics start to melt only past around 120C (250F). So I don't...

Re: SuperMicro Board Issue

Yeah, I was just about to post, what you got against FSP PSUs? :D

Then it crossed my mind perhaps you were thinking of Powmax, which is indeed only trash-worthy :trashcan:

Yep, Powerman / FSP /...

Re: Must this Nuvoton NCT6793D Super I/O IC be programmed ?

If that's the case, check Vcc supply to the Super I/O (typically 3.3V either through a MOSFET or a linear regulator generated from the 5VSB.)

It would best to do this once you remove the Super I/O...

Re: Dell optiplex 960

I see mostly Rubycon and Panasonic caps around the board, so those should be OK.
However, I do also see two green Sanyo/Suncon caps. If they are WF series, you might want to replace them. WG = okay....

Re: Dell model: H275P-01 P/N: HP-L2767F3P1 LF

The only thing I can find on badcaps.net using search is this:

... but there's no mention there if the PSU was faulty or if the...

Re: Overclockable Dell computers.

I see I'm not the only one then that keeps an eye on the better Dell heatsinks. Whenever I see a good one for a low price, I'm tempted to buy it. Good heatsinks are always worthwhile getting if they...

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage

Yup.
Caps with unstable electrolyte tend to do that, especially shit caps from China.

Good Japanese caps can sit for a few years on the shelf without use and have no problems afterwards. Of...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

If the 12V rail is produced by superimposing a 7V rail on top of the rectified 5V rail, then in such arrangement, both the 12V rectifier and 5V rectifier are used when current is being pulled from...

Try replace the caps near those regulators first. Chances are they may be dried up and making the regulators not able to...

Re: Task TK-940TX-DF Blowing fuse

So did you try measuring the voltage across the two big caps when the PSU is plugged in and the bulb glowing?

Yes, that will be fine. Let's see what results you get above for the voltage across...

Re: Dead Asus P5P800-VM

Nice work! :)
Glad to hear you were able get to the bottom of the problem and fix the motherboard. I honestly didn't expect the PWM controller to be bad.

Re: Panasonic FC series - leaking? quality gone?

I've used Nichicon PW in some PSU repairs, and so far so good.

I am still a bit weary of some of the Nichicon entry-level caps, though. For example, I had genuine (from Mouser) Nichicon PM leak...

XFX GeForce 6800 XT AGP with modded cooler [WIP]

I don’t think this is going to be a surprise really, but my (practically) never-ending supply of Xbox 360 rev2 (1 copper heatpipe) CPU heatsinks has come in handy once more. Since the 2nd 6800 XT had...

The Not-So-Cool Cooler on the XFX GeForce 6800 XT AGP

Right. So this is the reason I didn’t want to fully stress the 1st recapped 6800 XT card: the cooler.

Re: Very old Sanyo OS-CONs. Safe to use?

Corrected that for you. ;)

Well, at least I would gladly use these over GSC / Evercon / Sacon FZ and Rulycon (fake Rubycons, no surprise). Heck, these might be better over a lot of other junk...
