Re: Drilled motherboards

Looks like that will backfire for anything manufactured in the 2010s, with the coronavirus pandemic! Because many people can't even get a later video card!

Re: Asus A7V8X hdd issue

IIRC, I had a 2003-made A7V8X-X (Via KT400) with a green KZE cap and Ost caps.

On their later nForce 2 versions, (A7N8X) Asus seems to love using KZGs. Asus may have been using Nichicon HMs on...

Re: AMD AthlonXP multipliers on old motherboards...

Default for T-bird, is usually 1.75V.

Thoroughbred and Barton are 1.65V for the usual desktop variants.

2.4 at 1.80V is usually a golden sample. Even more so if you can hit 2.43 at 1.80V. (For...

Re: AMD AthlonXP multipliers on old motherboards...

I doubt motherboards made before the second half of 2001 are even electrically compatible with Athlon XP.

Re: junky Jetway P4MDPT board

I've been lately suspecting 2004 and 2005 KZGs being the worst.

Re: Corsair AX850 low 12v and 5v voltage with random reboots.

Yes! Ironically, high-quality caps are more likely to invisibly fail, but that's usually at nearly 45 years old for alarm systems and at least near 20 years old for PCs and that's usually if not...

Re: Corsair AX850 low 12v and 5v voltage with random reboots.

FFS, I had a 2008 FSP 500 with Ost and Teapo caps last for several years! IIRC, the voltages were still normal in 2016 and there were no visibly bad caps, when I last had it in 2016, before I gave it...

Re: me region 0.0.0.0 , powers off

I believe that, with those apparently "smart power controllers". Just another thing to go wrong, IMHO!

Maybe this is why some new ATX motherboards have a power-cycling fault! (Which would be a KBC...

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

It's during startup and then the glow stops quickly.

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

I liked that heater glow that I saw on a fluorescent tube at the Springfield community center, over one of the pool tables.

Without removing any of the bulbs:

(The cord was scuffed when I bought the fixture, IIRC, LOL)

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

None of my F32T8s are connected to a electro-magnetic ballast. They are all the new type, much like T5s.

But I still get that familiar wavy pattern with my 6K-rated ones when cold.

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

Mine are 32-watt.

I also have plenty of 48-inch T12s! (40-watt)

IIRC, the 54-watt ones are usually T5s!

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

Many CFLs are usually only a bit dim when cold-started, but some are extreme, some look like I'm starting up a metal halide or an HPS!

I've seen TCP CFLs start up like an HPS!

CFLs usually...

Re: <taps> So long, Pentium III, Athlon XP, and older...

That includes Coppermine, too! Katmai was pretty much a Pentium II with a different name. At best, was a Pentium II with SSE.

Re: Microstar 486 motherboard repair

LOL the same here with a socket 775 motherboard, I upgraded the RAM and then was met with "bleeeep-bleep-bleep". Meant it was reseat-the-RAM-time.

Re: PCs aren't extinct! (version 2.0)

2021 update:

Back to that kind o' shit again, FFS!

I saw a scalper selling a Radeon RX580 for $700-something! That's at least as insane as the fuel prices in Sweden! (easily $9 per-gallon!) If...
