Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

If they're the same core, sounds like it's probably legit... just a poorly supported wonky card.

Nvidia did the same thing with the Gerforce GTS250, which was just a die-shrunk (and OC'd?) 9800,...

Re: Solve this problem

That reminds me of using google voice commands over bluetooth to bypass a password lock preventing me from hard-resetting a galaxy tablet I got for cheap at a pawn shop. Only I cheated and read about...

Re: Intel has a new logo

Off topic:

Meteor lake? :poof:

Gee, I think Netburst finally has a proper successor. Who would of though a CPU could also double as a space heater for those cold winter months? :D

Re: Backup advice needed

One offsite if you've gone to the trouble.

That said, I haven't bothered. I have a file server (with the main storage using RAID 10) that weekly backs itself up to a 4TB internal backup drive...

Re: Dell Dimension 1100? ...or is it? The Ultimate Sleeper System

Gee, and you'all call me cheap... joking.

If it works, it works.

Re: Intel introduces ATX12VO spec eliminating 3.3 and 5v

...and is the standard for most modern industrial control systems (PLCs, robots, etc.). Most of the sensors and the like I see at work are rated for 10-30VDC, but 24V is what nearly everything uses....

Re: Intel introduces ATX12VO spec eliminating 3.3 and 5v

From what I read, it's 12V standby too. Can't say why, other than to make them truly "12V only".

I'm a bit late to the party, but I will note that this setup is roughly how a lot of (but...

Re: Dell Dimension 1100? ...or is it? The Ultimate Sleeper System

I'd think 2U side blowers would be a better fit since you seems to have a "blow-though" case with good ventilation on the front, but not from the "top" of the cooler. The only reason I used top...

Re: Dell Dimension 1100? ...or is it? The Ultimate Sleeper System

Based on my experiences, some Dynatron 2U coolers will work fine. Or did you already try such?

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1 - HIS Radeon HD4670 AGP

I have this exact card on the faster of my two X5DAL builds. Great card, just be sure you use HIS's drivers if you're on windows. Generic drivers didn't work for me. If they're not available, I have...

Re: Topcat's Weird Pentium Pro Builds

It ain't period correct, but I have a 2-port IDE 3ware 7000 card sitting. No BBU or the header for such (but I have the SMD headers to fix that if it's like the 9500 )

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

And in return, I got another eATX SM chassis... one of the big 8x SAS ones. (Built it up last night, will post in the relevant thread later).

The Voodoo card was part of a vanload I got back in my...

Re: Went Kayaking....and it's not what you're thinking! HP XAs Restoration!

It's not a 3DFX card, but you have an old radeon AGP card coming in your next ratdude loot shipment ;).

I think it's a 9000 or something of that vintage.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Nforce Pro 3000 series (nVidia's offering for socket F).

They do run toasty... hence why both of my SM boards with Nforce pro chips (one is for socket 940, the other for socket F) have fanned...

Re: Dell 960 Memory Allocation

As quirky as VIA was, they were indeed the best for consumer coppermine boards.

Too bad ALI wasn't making chipsets at the point... The Super7 and 370 Celeron ones were nice. Much less quirky than...

Re: Dell 960 Memory Allocation

Something like that. I can't remember the specifics. Came into play when I was trying to use the Gavotte PAE RAMdisk routine to maximize the 4GB on my Dell Latitude D630's XP setup (it had a discrete...

Re: Need to find a 34-Pin Motherboard Floppy Header

That's the burning question, I don't know... It *appears* they are, and the setting in the BIOS to enable floppy... It was a cheap gamble, it may be a miserable failure.[/QUOTE]

I remember now....

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Yeah. Originally all SLI boards were limited to 8 Lanes per slot... but not on either of the two Nforce Pro chipsets (the Socket 940 Nforce pro 2000 was the first to support dual 16 lane SLI,...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

The build coming to the case I'm trading off you is based on the SM EATX version of that board. The Nforce Pro 3000 series chipset is good (as was the 2000 series for socket 940).

Hex-core CPUs...

Re: Dell Dimension 1100? ...or is it? The Ultimate Sleeper System

If the case has standard Dell audio headers, they did make alienware/XPS Audigy x-fi cards for this. I have one in my dual 940 rig (with a HP-spec'd standard HDA header soldered in place of the dell...

Re: Dell Dimension 1100? ...or is it? The Ultimate Sleeper System

My wife plays WOW on my x7DCA... no sweat @ 1080P with a GTX 970. I'm running low voltage CPUs too (due to the case's poor cooling); since you're going into presumably a better cooled case, you might...
