Re: Help with car battery charger HT7715

While it may be okay with respect to uF, it may not meet it's ESR specifications.

Re: Help with car battery charger HT7715

BTW, the PCB was made 2010 03 02 so it's 10 years old.

If the startup cap was cheap quality to begin with, I can see it failing/dried out even without much usage.

Re: Help with car battery charger HT7715

On the back of the PCB, one of those larger ICs should be the SMPS chip.

If you look at its part number and find the datasheet, it will tell you what the typical VCC startup voltage should be.

Re: Why Lubuntu?

That article is 3 years old and much has changed.

LXQT 20.04 is now > 1GB ISO and comes with LibreOffice.

Again, either L or X are excellent choices for older machines. Pick whatever makes you...

Re: Why Lubuntu?

X or L, it really doesn't matter.

I chose L back in 2014, because it used less resources than X. Back in 2014, I was still using P4 and low end dual cores with only 1GB DRAM so I had to be very...

Re: Help with car battery charger HT7715

A low clicking noise might suggest the power supply is trying to start, but the startup capacitor is bad or dried out as stj suggested.

A dried out cap won't show any obvious signs of damage.

Maybe try dd-wrt first and then flash openwrt over dd-wrt?

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

only 2MB DRAM - won't be able to run openwrt or dd-wrt

It can run openwrt 19.07.1 according to

Re: Looking for advice in tutoring a child in basic electronics

One idea?

Try to find a good youtube channel/channels that has lots of tutorials and that appeals to the 12 year old.

Maybe he will take a liking to one or two and the learning will start from...

Re: Desktop EMachines ET1331G, AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250u Processor

Xubuntu is a good choice. I use Lubuntu.

Version 20.04 will be coming out late April 2020.

X/Lubuntu will run on 1GB DRAM, but 2GB is better with today's browser.

Re: systemd?

My concern with systemd is that it is > 1 million lines of code. As more functionality is added to it, the chances of errors, vulnerabilities, bugs, etc increase.

In addition, debugging,...

Re: Why Lubuntu?

38 seconds for a traditional spinning disk isn't bad depending on the the CPU and hard disk. I think it was about 25 seconds when I had a traditional hard disk on a dual core E8400.

Try these 6...

Re: Why Lubuntu?

Even with faster hardware now since I started using lubuntu in 2014, I stick with lubuntu due to the above.

Also with less default software/daemons/services, there is a smaller attack vector.

Re: Trash that broken TV and get a brand new for $59, but hurry

Probably everywhere. Cheapest components possible. LEDs likely set to 100% brightness and likely to fail in 3 or 4 years.

Re: What TRULY Renders an Operating System Obsolete?
