Re: Topcat's Other Misc Weird Build Thread

Well this was critiqued today by none other than my 24yr old daughter who said it looked awesome, but the blue was a bit overbearing. Add a little more red if you can....so I pondered....and...

Re: PC case - Hard drive rails

The drive rails are likely universal between any case that company makes....that said, I've made Enlight drive rails work with all kinds of cases that they were never intended to be used in.

Re: Topcat's Other Misc Weird Build Thread

Forgive me computer gods, for I have sinned....but keep in mind, this was done to mock someone that bragged about spending $100 on RGB fans & lighting! I found that to be absurd. My 'mock'...

Re: Topcat's Other Misc Weird Build Thread

Today's weird one comes in the form of some old HP Pentium-D system with a board full of bad caps..... Not really worth the effort to recap....but the case is immaculate.....good for a mild sleeper....

Nice pickup. To my surprise, good laser printers sell....I've sold quite a few, for a nice profit.

Yea, that's the one. This one is all copper....and ~2lbs feels about right. It works well though. :)

Re: How to Recondition (Reform) Electrolytic Capacitors and Why

^
I know this is probably cheating (or those that have this kind of gear are just spoiled), but using the leakage test function with the button hold-down rod on a Sencore LCR, this will reform caps...

Re: The Cheap Duo - Two SiS machines

The Abit Slotket II will run CuMine's, as well as the UpgradeWare 370 Slot-T, which will also run Tualatins as well as coppermines. Both support SMP.....which if you haven't noticed is an old...

Re: The Cheap Duo - Two SiS machines

I ran a pair of SL5QW's in Abit Slotket2's in an asus P2B-DS w/ 1gb RAM and a voodoo 3. Fabulous retro setup....I actually sold that system for a small fortune.

Re: Shipping PCs with heavy heatsink/fans...

Those sinks are horrible....but the upside is they're light....they tend to stay put. I usually break them trying to remove/reinstall them.

Re: The Cheap Duo - Two SiS machines

If it's a S370 1100/100 Pentium3 (not celeron) CuMine; SL5QW, those are actually quite rare and worth an easy $100.

Re: Shipping PCs with heavy heatsink/fans...

Old world ones attached to the little plastic clips on ZIF sockets and some P4's were bad about breaking in transit. Things that are screwed into metal (modern stuff), I've never had a problem.

Re: The (now the death of) Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

I didn't accomplish anything astonishing today....but I did get a little done. Laying out some things for the front panel. First thing was a bay for 2x 5.25" drive mounts. I'm using the original...

Re: never had a psu fail this way: what would cause psu to repeatedly shut itself off

Now that is a bit of a strange symptom....albeit, iwill was notorious for things like that. Just for giggles, what caps are on this board? Post some pics....this could definitely be cap-related.

Re: never had a psu fail this way: what would cause psu to repeatedly shut itself off

If I understood his post (lol, punny) correctly, the issue was the lag period between power-on and actual system POST, not detection lag after-post.

Re: never had a psu fail this way: what would cause psu to repeatedly shut itself off

Sometimes boards are just slow POST'ers.... If it's consistent, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you otherwise found the iWill 'sweet spot', pat yourself on the back!
