Re: Hard drive reliability
This is the most POH I've accumulated on a SATA drive. This was a few years ago. I believe it was around 109,000 last time I checked. In perfect health! It's been with the same Pentium 4 the whole...

Re: Hard drive reliability
The POH counter there is accurate, I watched it  I was referring to the Load Cycle Count. Aren't drives usually rated for 300-600k? 2.3 million load cycles is insane, I'm just surprised that...

Re: Hard drive reliability
As long as the SMART data is healthy, I leave them alone. Since a mechanical failure can technically happen to any HDD at any moment, I don't let it bother me. As long as it's backed up, I don't mind...

Re: Hard drive reliability
How the hell is this thing still alive???
It's a 2.5" drive made in August 2012. I'm currently beating it up with torrents, so I don't believe it'll last much longer lol.

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2
Interesting, I've had one of these before but the design was quite different. Mine had a switch on the back. As long as it was plugged into the wall, the switch would always turn it on.
How many A...

Re: Mad Dog Multimedia (Super Flower) MD-500SCPS
Thank you, sir. I do 100% plan on doing a full refurbish but it's getting harder as I get older. Especially when there are such annoying tasks as removing conductive glue. Recapping (especially...

Re: Asus VS197/VS197D-P
Recapped the whole thing, including the main cap and the single cap on the mainboard.
In case anyone wants needs the cap info that was used for this monitor in the future, this is what I used:

Re: Adding Passive PFC coil to PSU?
Okay so it turns out the replacement PSU won't work, the PCB is too big :( I have a Macron MPT-301 and another PSU. The Macron doesn't have any PFC markings at all but the other PSU does.

Re: Failed Panasonic FL
I replaced all the KZG with polymer at least. I think it will last a long time. If I need to replace some more caps on the board later, that's fine. I just don't want to have to work on that PSU ever...

Maybe it's tricking your meter? Also looks like it might be starting to lift itself off of the board too, have you pulled the cap to see if the bung is starting to pop out? I too have seen BH caps...

Re: Completely dead BaoDiKai 120MM fan
I'm not sure what you mean by 'drive out the bearing' ?
Excellent, thanks! I will see if I can find that. If it doesn't dry out, it's automatically a better solution

Re: Completely dead BaoDiKai 120MM fan
I'm not letting it get off that easy :) I would be surprised if it even saw 10,000 hours of use!
Usually it's this easy. Just curious, what oil/grease do you use? I have been using Tri-Flow and...

Re: Completely dead BaoDiKai 120MM fan
I found the issue I believe. I managed to get the shaft off without breaking the tiny clip. I analyzed it and saw a loose piece of wire but then I went to look at the transistor. I barely touched it...

Re: Completely dead BaoDiKai 120MM fan
I will see if I can take it apart without breaking it lol. If the winding is broken, will it be easy to spot?
That is a very odd issue to have. The sound of those things drive me nuts. Can't...

Yes the Rubycon were all okay
Even all of the small caps? I replaced the 1800µF 6.3V Panasonic FL with 2200µF 6.3V Rubycon ZLQ.

That's a very interesting unit. The longer you look at it, the more odd it is. Never seen anything like it. Thanks for sharing. What brand was the fan that failed? What are you going to do with it?

Failed Panasonic FL
This is the first time that I've seen an Panasonic cap fail that wasn't installed backwards (at least that I can remember).
It's a 1800µF 6.3V part. It's from a Dell Optiplex 780 SFF from 2010....
