Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

I have got one more T&P-nonsense psu

T&P-DHK 420ATX

I 've posted again this model (check link posted by momaka above) but internally they are completely different units.

There is some...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

T&P-LIW Meiji-420 ATX

No name junk psu.

The input filter is missing and the fuse is blown.

The shape of the legs of the 4 diodes is interesting.

All the output rails rectifiers are rated...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Top Power 500W

Not to be confused with topower OEM

Another boring cheap psu.

But I really like the names they give their fans. This is the Bestcooler fan brand.

Did you notice anything...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Excellent Power IT ATX 350

But I couldn't find anything excellent about this psu.

It's a Deer, the 2003 platform with the 2003 chip of the year.

The fan seized, the 12V output uses the 2...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

The worst thing here is the output rectifier for 12V rail.

I mean, this thing was made in 2010, 10 years after the Pentium 4 cpus that were the first cpus drawing power from 12V rail.

It should...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Protection? No, we don't have this here

I have noticed several times Linkworld psus with bulging caps and 12V rail going up to even 14V and the psu still working :noob:

This is the...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Another Enlight 300Watt psu.

Very old power supply, this was made back in 2002 and still worked. No bulging caps. Even the terrible Jenpo capacitors seem to be ok.

This is the worst design I...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Innovator 350W Max (Linkworld)

This is a small factor power supply that has been taken out of a mini pc case.

The fan stopped and the former IT guy, replaced it with another one, but in the end...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

I also oiled the fan.

The fan controller is good for a gutless power supply like this. The fan moves a fair amount of air, without getting too loud.

I am going to donor an old dual core PC:...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

I wanted to experiment with this psu.

Since it is one of the less gutless Powertech/Hantol/aqprox! power supply, I wanted to try to make it more safe and try to improve it to be able to output...

2 of those are Asus with very good coolers and the other one is a no name one with a pathetic heatsink installed on top of the gpu.

The PCI-e to...

Re: AMD 3870 VRAM problem?

I always put a fan on any passively cooled GPU. It makes a very big difference and actually is enough for the card to stay cool under any circumstance.

Re: EVGA e-GeForce 7600 GS AGP 256MD2 [256-A8-N542-T2] with bad caps - fixed

In my opinion the only thing that makes this card valuable is that it is one of the most powerful AGP cards.

Excelent work as always momaka. Does it support hardware acceleration on youtube?

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Lamtech ATX-S450

Personally, I find this psu boring.

While most of the components are there, they are just too small.

The input filter is here, missing a common mode choke and MOV.

The...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Powertech ATX-450W year 2014

I have also the 2012, 2013 and 2015 versions of this thing.

No one is even close to half decent.

Something bad happened here as you can see from the toasty group...
