Re: Has anyone had issues with Rayovac Alkaline batteries leaking

Yes typically you could use a lithium thionyl chloride or lithium iron sulfide primary cell as they have much higher specific energy (but not specific power) so you never need to change them.

TBH...

Re: <play taps>RadeonHD 5770 dead at ... ~10?

I'll try to hunt for one for now, just hope to find one faster than the onchip 2nd gen for not much.
So far the X800 won't allow me to passthrough to the onboard output, probably have to use the gpu...

Re: <play taps>RadeonHD 5770 dead at ... ~10?

Yeah all 5 of those dead GPUs were acquired new... So I've been having bad luck with GPUs?

Currently functional PCIe GPUs I have left are an X800 and a G210. Neither are opencl though the X800...

Re: <play taps>RadeonHD 5770 dead at ... ~10?

so now I've had a dead diamond hd5770, sapphire hd3650, pny mx440, and a foxconn G965 (yes onboard)... maybe more... nforce board...

hmm.

the 5770 was "fast enough" ... would use the x800 but...

Re: <play taps>RadeonHD 5770 dead at ... ~10?

Yeah don't know yet what I want to do yet. One last experiment before declaring last rites but probably it's time to get another. Not sure if I want to get a 64-bit card yet, I think I can get one...

<play taps>RadeonHD 5770 dead at ... ~10?

Well... it was a good run after 10 years I think.

My computer with the Diamond branded RadeonHD 5770 crashed and screen corrupted an hour ago and couldn't boot my machine with it installed anymore...

Re: Post your worthless and/or pointless repairs

Amplifier in those speakers a single ended (with dc blocking capacitor), bridge, or bipolar driver? Highly doubting bipolar but bridge is possible, else cheaper single ended...

Suspecting the...

Re: Post your worthless and/or pointless repairs

Nice... I tend to bin small speaker enclosures with bad drivers, though I have repaired one speaker with bad tinsel wire... fixed with homemade tinsel wire...

Re: My Uni-T died... looking for a replacement

sigh. My hacked Mastech (with a data logging port) died. Now where can I get another cheap DMM that has logging or easily hacked to log. Else I might have to hack my other meter (Tenma) with...

Re: Has anyone had issues with Rayovac Alkaline batteries leaking

I had a red HFT alkaline PP3 that actually *exploded* leaving bits of the cell nearby...

Speaking of batteries, I have a bench DMM that uses 6xC (UM2) batteries, I wonder what's the best...

Re: Radio Shack 2200813 29 range DVM

Does the meter otherwise work on voltage, resistance modes?

Is that 90 ohms measured out of circuit?

What does the meter read if you pass 20mA in it with that 90 ohm resistor in it?

Without...

Re: Has anyone had issues with Rayovac Alkaline batteries leaking

Yeah the AA 14500 NiZn's I had were only like 900mAh. Total crap. They need to be in SMPS buck/boost with BMS. At 1.5Wh it's not way too bad though 2.4Wh NiMH is typical...

The charger...

Re: Has anyone had issues with Rayovac Alkaline batteries leaking

I tried a couple and they are fragile. Powergenix NiZn were terrible in cycle life, I don't think I even got 10 cycles before they dropped dead, even with their own charger.

Yeah, maybe 5 with...

Re: Has anyone had issues with Rayovac Alkaline batteries leaking

Theoretically they are identical.
Question is if they are better because they probably aren't counterfeit!

Re: Has anyone had issues with Rayovac Alkaline batteries leaking

Anyone had experience with Duracell's Procell (all black duracell instead of copper top), are these any better?

I have a feeling that a lot of the non blister pack Duracell could be fakes. Not...

Re: Has anyone had issues with Rayovac Alkaline batteries leaking

I had some NiZn batteries and they quickly died, they were not balanced.

Not sure about those li-ion cells with internal buck/boost circuitry...

I would think the leak-in-blister pack is rare...

Re: Catapillar ECU repair, need N548AB replacement?

My "fix later pile" tends to end up being the spare parts pile :(

Re: Aquarius WaterPik WP-100W water flosser

To be accurate, getting shocked by a charged capacitor (even photoflash) is nowhere near as bad as getting shocked by power mains...

... at least a capacitor shock is of limited joules of energy....

Re: Help me understand this schematic Harman&Kardon tape deck (TD470)

This narrows down the search space a bit as now we know it's not the tape side path.

When absent. Check the voltage at pin 10 of the 30-pin CN801, if it's 5V then P.Mute isn't the problem.

Re: Help me understand this schematic (tape deck PS)

I still think that these voltages will not cause an intermittent failure. It would cause catastrophic failure if any at all, but you're not saying so..

BTW which specific outputs are not...

Re: Help me understand this schematic (tape deck PS)

Since there's no regulation, these are probably expected voltages, though -24 's absolute value is a little low...

However you have a fairly high offset across the board, what are you using as...

Re: Catapillar ECU repair, need N548AB replacement?

Just saying, it's just as easy to make fakes and even cheap chinese knockoffs would work as good or even better than the original at much lower cost!
