Re: Can I substitute these capacitors on a D865PERL motherboard?

I second this ^

Replace all small caps around the RAM, Northbridge, and Southbridge areas with at least entry-level low-ESR caps, like Kaboom suggested.

If you can't find those, here is a more...

Re: K7T266 Pro2 (MSI MS-6380), damaged caps!

Sounds good.

If you intend to do more motherboard recapping in the future though, then make sure you have a good soldering iron. Motherboards can suck out a lot of heat, especially for the caps...

Re: The (now the death of) Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

So my guess about what I least expected it to be is what it's going to be, lol. :D

With a case that large, the only thing I can think of is some kind of a load tester / active load device for...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

For PSUs, reducing capacitance while also reducing the ESR actually increases the risk of oscillation... but in most cases (it does vary a bit with designs) you have to get silly with the ESR...

Re: junky Jetway P4MDPT board

Nice. :)
A lot of older boards didn't care as much about low-ESR caps (particularly early Pentium 4 boards and ones older than that.)

The arrangement of those caps look similar to an ECS...

Re: Help on Samsung Syncmaster T220 dead ccfl lamp

I like it. :)
Simple / "lazy" fixes like this are sometimes quite alright. Most likely the monitor will probably work OK for a decent amount of time, if not until it is no longer useful anyways.

Re: Herbalizer - Loss of temp regulation

It does.
That means whatever is reading the temperature may actually be working fine.

In that case, I suggest to check the Gate drive circuitry directly connected to QX1. So that would be R61,...

Re: The Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

Whaaa??
If it's not going to be a PC then what could it be? Maybe a massive drive-filled NAS? At least it doesn't look like you're going to transform this into anything like test equipment or some...

Re: Blown cap

Well, APFC is a whole another story. Even good Japanese caps fail there sometimes, particularly if the manufacturer penny-pinched and used 85C -rated caps instead of 105C -rated caps... and also 400V...

Re: Fake KZE 680uf 16v?

Let us know what you find.

The seller is based off of Potomac, MD, which isn't that far from me.
Would be a good deal if they are genuine.

I don't think the text can be used too much to tell...

Oh noes, I hear the dremmel spooling up. Run for your lives! ;)

The Supermicro tree dropped something interesting again? :)

Re: Herbalizer - Loss of temp regulation

Ah Ok, sorry about the misunderstanding.

In that case, I second redwire's advice. See which component gives feedback for the temperature back to the board and make sure it is working...

Re: K7T266 Pro2 (MSI MS-6380), damaged caps!

Can you post a close up picture of the caps?

If the caps are dented or scratched only a bit, I wouldn't worry about replacing them. However, if they are very deformed, then you may consider...

Re: junky Jetway P4MDPT board

Looking at pictures of the board online... Most likely, I'd say the answer is YES.

Given how many caps it has around the CPU, converting it to all-polymer will still probably give good enough...

Re: Herbalizer - Loss of temp regulation

Can't see any damage to the legs of QX1. But since you do have a low resistance between T1 and T2 (21) Ohms on this Triac, I suggest to remove it from the board and check it again. If you still get...

Re: Mackie CR4 amplifier no sound

Yup, do that to verify if the chip is going into mute state or not. Report what voltage you see and whether that's with the amp working or not.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Given the pictures of that 5KVA unit, I can totally see this:

Wife: Hey honey, what happened to our kitchen stove?
You: Sorry babes, that stove had to go. We weren't really using it too much...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

I think it just depends on the topology a little bit.

Even if it's a new PSU, if it uses an oldschool half-bridge design (which I know a lot of older CWT-built Antecs did), chances are you could...

Seems like depending on the culture and/or local cuisine you're accustomed to, there are different ways to deal with the heat / spicy stuff.

One of my high school Korean friends always eats his...

Re: Original Xbox Replacement Caps

I'd replace them. A few 16V, 680 uF caps shouldn't cost too much. Nichicon HM from that era is just failure prone, no matter the size. With that said, it can sometimes take a little longer for the...

Re: Help on Samsung Syncmaster T220 dead ccfl lamp

As stj said, inverter is designed to detect faulty CCFLs and shut down.

Maybe. Maybe not.

I've done it on an old Dell E193FPc monitor that kept blowing BJTs on the lower inverter. I couldn't...

Re: Mackie CR4 amplifier no sound

A bit hard to tell what's going on from these pictures alone. Would be nice if we can get straight shots from the top and bottom side of all PCBs.

That said, are there speaker output relays? If...

Re: Blown cap

Yup, Taicon it is.
A little surprised, though. Generally, I see them fail a lot less than other 2nd tier brand and expect them to fail less. But I suppose that doesn't mean too much when it comes to...

Re: Vizio Soundbar VSB200B Overheating

Hmmm...
I'm a bit split where to start on this one. Indeed nothing looks obviously bad or overheated.

Since the unit seems to be consistently indicating over-temperature, perhaps you can check if...
