Re: Ly ir8500 station good or?

Impressive! And that is low cost, around 200USD for a bga station.

What are you planning on for your MCU, some are a bit hard to get at the moment.

Re: New Cheap Chinese Soldering Plates

Link? Which one?

I can't measure right now, my meter is across the country. :( I may pick up a cheap meter in the meantime though.

Re: New Cheap Chinese Soldering Plates

Ok, did some testing. 3 minutes 30 seconds to 215C. Top temperature around 330C or so in another minute or so. It bounces aronud a bit between 225 and 235. I had one measurement around at 239C. ...

Re: Help to bring cost down for 15 Caps

If you are doing small quantities your best bet is to find a local brick and mortar place. You can probably save a few bucks and skip replacing c103, those large caps tend to not go bad.

If you...

Re: Signal Tracer - Requesting input on requirements

While I was removing and testing caps, I found that the resistor after the amp and before the speaker had broken off. Very subtle, I had looked over it before and not seen it. So, volume has been...

Re: New Cheap Chinese Soldering Plates

Thanks for the idea. Kapton tape should probably work in this instance, there's little risk of the tape falling off and burning up since it's already temperature limited.

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

I misunderstood his last post on eevblog, it sounded to me like work was done, but he's still working out a few issues. He mentioned he should have it done relatively soon.

Re: New Cheap Chinese Soldering Plates

I can believe it, 240-260C is the top end of the range. This is my next project after finishing the signal tracer, should be quick to knock out a design. I think the hardest part will be figuring...

Re: Signal Tracer - Requesting input on requirements

I had to spend some time out of town, I'm back on the project. It's all together on the perfboard and I used shielded cable for the connections to the pot. I'm not picking up any noise from the...

Re: New Cheap Chinese Soldering Plates

Yeah, I bought one on amazon, the one with the silly plug. ;) There's a review with a pic of an infrared thermometer saying it reaches 230C, which is actually fine for me. Adding a touch of hot air...

Re: New Cheap Chinese Soldering Plates

Isn't logarithmic x^10 and power of 2, well, x^2. Wouldn't we just see some flattening, and not a straight line?

Re: New Cheap Chinese Soldering Plates

I think there might be 2 factories, I have seen two basic styles.

Because of how the PTC heaters operate, I'm not sure there's much of a difference in heating via 120 and 220v. It's not a...

New Cheap Chinese Soldering Plates

I was browsing on ali, and I'm seeing a bunch of these super cheap soldering hot plates. I was going to make one, but it's really hard to justify DIY when you can buy a plate for under $10.

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

Well, it only benefits the big players. You might see individual chinese stores opening local warehouses like banggood and fasttech, or you might see ali open local distribution warehouses. Or...

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

This is so disproportional, I can't even call it a "cut". That implies a percentage of the whole. This is akin to making any shipment cost a minimum of $50. Arguing over the value of the contents...

Re: Has anyone had issues with Rayovac Alkaline batteries leaking

I gave up on any kind of alkaline batteries after yet another piece of equipment was ruined, and I'd buy energizer or duracell only, no off brands. Eneloops don't have much battery life to them, but...

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

Sam, what this means is that anyone in the EU has to pay customs on anything imported. That wouldn't be so bad, but the carriers have a part in it, and you could expect to pay $40 or more fee for...

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

From eevblog:

I could contact him and get some sent to me and send them out to others (US only) if there are enough people interested.

Re: Desoldering help

IHMO, removing solder to remove a part can be the wrong strategy. You want to flood the part with solder so that your iron makes excellent contact with the puddle and the puddle transmits the heat...

Yeah, you have to take them apart, it's a messy process. Do it in a pan or on cardboard or something.

Re: cheap but good thermal paste?

Suspect a dying fan. Most fans in my experience don't die outright, they slow down, or intermittently stop and restart when someone is watching.

I wouldn't have ever noticed this behavior, but...

Re: cheap but good thermal paste?

Heh, spotted the non-gentoo user.

If you run gentoo, you pretty much need to recompile a good part of your system at least once a quarter. I have given up on compiling the larger ones like...
