Re: growing (not biological) rf noise from a car?

hmm... guess i'll have to pull the cap and see if there's anything going on in there.
Newer cars don't have a rotor or cap... :o

Wonder if some day I'd need to convert the engine to be COP...

Re: growing (not biological) rf noise from a car?

Well it's clear it's not power distributed noise actually, it's being radiated into the air as battery and isolated receivers pick up. Also have multiple radios that are "hearing" the noise.

Re: growing (not biological) rf noise from a car?

yeah was thinking about putting a scope on the alternator output and seeing if there's any funny business going on there. Or maybe the regulator. I definitely hear some change in noise when I load...

growing (not biological) rf noise from a car?

Just wondering, anyone have a car that seems to increase in rf noise generation over time, say, years...and what caused it?

I noticed my radios (of all types from hf to uhf) getting poorer and...

Re: power speaker board

reason why I ask is something seems very wrong with the circuit.
Yes the TIP41 is paired with the TIP42 but I would imagine audio amplifiers should be stereo these days and this is not paired with...

Re: power speaker board

not supposed to get hot, you have a short somewhere...question now is... what is that transistor being used for?

Re: Sony ICF-C12W Radio Clock schematics (power)

No, transformer buzzing is just audible noise, not electrical noise -- unless it's actually arcing which would add to thermal noise...

Just make sure it's a step down transformer, whether it's an...

Re: power speaker board

That TIP41C got mighty toasty. Catastrophic failure usually is caused by catastrophic issues... do you know what happened before it started frying these? This is not the first transistor it fried?...

Re: Sony ICF-C12W Radio Clock schematics (power)

The battery is a 6F22/PP3 and is likely offboard on the bottom of the unit if past experience with Sony "dream machines" goes.

It might just work with a step down 220V to 120V, else you'll need to...

Re: Sony ICF-C12W Radio Clock schematics (power)

Despite having a PP3 to backup the clock, I'd be surprised if it doesn't require line power for clock operation.

But it might actually autodetect 50/60Hz...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

I'd imagine back when these Fuhjyyus were installed it was before the Antec era and efficiencies were even lower...

We'll see I suppose, so far they're surviving the time.

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

Well would be nice to go down to 100 Ω resolution, that would be an order of magnitude better than my 3466A which resolve down to 1 mΩ, ?? counts.

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

Damn... now that looks like something that might be useful.
Need to stop wanting to buy single use tools, or design one. Alas it's all in the op amp...and if I could find a 16-bit ADC in my junk...

Re: Op-amp preamp discussion

Generally a bipolar cap should be used when unsure. A polarized cap can be used if the circuit charges it the right way.

If this is the short theory, what's the long theory?

Re: Frying amplifier finals... audio, not rf...

Re: ICT12012-10A Comm Series folds back under load (fixed)

PSU is a PSU of course of course... what's so special?

Then again I did mod it from 12V to 13.8V IIRC, but I had a vague recollection I or someone posted the mod somewhere.

yay for design defects and shorts when you plug in phone plugs! As much as I like phone plugs for being generic and ubiquitous, if not designed properly they do short (notwithstanding as that organ...

Re: Onkyo HT-R510 turns on and then immediatly off

Could you measure the voltages with one decimal point of accuracy?

As of right now things don't make any sense. Ensure R5134 is intact but hard to imagine this failed, and still bettery yet...

Re: Frying amplifier finals... audio, not rf...

it is most definitely generating heat when both are turned on... Not a dead short but most definitely is drawing power that way. Crossover dissipation to an extreme.

It would just be the...

but still, you have a bank of solenoids, and one solenoid isn't working...well, something be a bad one on that circuit... (and then the TRIAC the AVRTransistortest pukes on...)

Re: Frying amplifier finals... audio, not rf...

drift happens ...but enough to cause it to leak too much and meltdown? Still if you have a bias current of 20mA and it goes to 50mA, it should still be able to tolerate the heat as it's still lower...
