Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

I see that Delta P/S was made in late 2008. So 8-11 years of life would be pretty decent. But 4 or 5 would not, unless the customer kept the computer in a confined space with poor cooling.

Re: DELL Z930P-00 SLOW start

Does the 5V (or 12V) Standby voltage come up immediately or take 5-10 seconds to come up?

Re: mercury pc power supply only 5vsb supply.

The green wire is PS-ON, an input from the motherboard. Typically that signal has to be low to enable the main inverter and output voltages. If I understand your post correctly, you measured ~5V on...

Re: Oscilloscope Advice....

Yeah, the 455/465/475 Tek 'scopes were luggable. I kind of like Tek's or Fluke's hand-helds or Tek's TDS30xx series "lunch-box" 'scopes, but those may be pricier than SolomonMan has in mind.

Re: HiPro HP-P3017F3 rev:03 [Dell H057N] - capacitor repair

Nice heavy metal! 300W might be conservative, or it might have a really quiet fan.

Re: 200v 30a Rectifier

"Rectifier" in this context may be telecom-lingo for power supply. Based on the large number of Wima, Roederstein, and, possibly, Siemens film capacitors, I'd guess it's a European product, possibly...

Re: Corsair 750W SemiMOD

More info about the PSU might help us be more helpful.

Is the large electrolytic capacitor on the primary side rated for 400, 420, or 450 volts? If so, what is the voltage across it? If so and the...

Re: ESR Data

(M) - this is not part of the series name. it simply means that the tolerance for the part is +/-20%.

(C) - I'm going to guess that this might be the copyright symbol; or maybe the location of the...

Re: tire car balancer

An MOV is normally across the AC line to absorb transient surges. Two things I noticed are the reasons for my comments that follow: that device is over 15 years old; that RJ-45 socket and the nearby...

Re: Diode testing question

Different types of rectifiers/diodes have different forward drops: silicon vs. germanium vs. silicon carbide; schottky vs. standard recovery vs. (ultra-)fast recovery.

Re: List of pin compatible pwm/supervisor PSU ICs

Back in 1998-2001 when I worked for Delta, DNA1001 and DNA1002 were proprietary custom ICs. DNA1005A may be as well.

Re: Dell D550p Not Starting

The 165V across the main input 'lytic probably means the PFC is not operating. And if the secondary-side controller gets status info from the primary side, the secondary-side controller is probably...

Re: Re-purposing power supply parts

The topology for that adapter is discontinuous flyback (the seeming lack of an output inductor is the big clue). That means that the main "transformer" is actually a coupled inductor. When switch Q1...

Did you also replace CF15, which appears to be bulging (as I posted above)?

Re: Delta DPS-800GB Power Supply No Power

You probably could search that (Delta?) fan model and learn the function of that third wire.

Modern server PSUs are basically microcontroller (uC) controlled. At least some have a uC on the...

Re: Delta DPS-800GB Power Supply No Power

If the PSU is controlled by a microcontroller, it might be sensing a fan failure and shutting down the PSU. Is the harness to the fan 4-wire (+12V, Return, PWM, and tachometer)? It may be that the...

Re: Dell model L275E-01 pn: Wu142. Optiplex 755 small form factor.

While I won't disagree with your assessment of the enviros, improving efficiency of PSUs in a big server-storage farm can improve the farm's electric bill, so to speak.

Shorting out the inrush...

Re: Power Board MHC180-TF60SP1A from Sharp lc-60le644u TV

Knowing the manufacturer and series of the original caps could be helpful in determining what the closest replacements from a good vendor/series would be.

Re: Power Board MHC180-TF60SP1A from Sharp lc-60le644u TV

CF15 on the primary side looks swollen. At 5 years old, if those output caps are not good brands I'd consider replacing the ones that are not obviously bad.
